The facilities collectively feature athletic fields (football, soccer,
softball, baseball), sports practice areas, playgrounds, picnic pavilions,
small, medium & large picnic shelters (tables at all, some with electricity
& grills), restrooms. Some parks have nearby restrooms & drinking
fountains. Abel Lake-Abel Reservoir, open year 'round from dawn to dusk, offers
a stocked fishing area (Virginia
State Fishing License is required), boating (electric motors only), a boat ramp
with parking, hiking, and picnicking. Open year 'round from dawn to dusk. Aquia
Landing, a riverfront beach area, with supervised swim areas open from Memorial
Day to Labor Day, features a concession stand; fishing is allowed. Duff McDuff
Green Park
features a wooden observation deck over the Rappahonnock River;
Little Falls Boat Ramp provides fishing and boating access to the Rappahannock River with a wooden fishing pier, a boat
ramp, and parking. Courthouse
Community Center houses
meeting rooms that each provides tables and chairs, as well as a TV/VCR; some rooms are carpeted. Carl Lewis Community
Center houses a gym with basketball & volleyball courts, bleachers, and a
stage; kitchen tables and chairs are available; there is limited parking. The
Historic Port of Falmouth offers an open field, a rugby field, and a
waterfront. Curtis Memorial County Park houses a Skateboard Park with1/2"
pipe, ramps, rails, boxes for inline skates & skateboards; a pool with 25
meter & 50 meter lanes and a diving well (15ft.) with a 1 meter
springboard; and a Baby Pool with zero depth to 2.5 ft swim area with an
umbrella feature; the pool is handicapped accessible, has restroom facilities,
and houses the Curtis Park Swim
Team. The park also offers an open field area for day camps & overnight
camping with restrooms & water nearby, a small open play area &
separate parking, and an extra large shelter (capacity of 250), electricity,
porta johns, & a horseshoe pit. Rowser Complex houses a Commercial Kitchen
for warming food; a large open Multi-Purpose Room featuring a stage &
basketball hoops; and a Sr. Citizen Center Meeting Room (available to rent
after 4:30 PM M-F and on weekends). Stafford Gymnastics and Recreation Center
houses several rooms of various sizes; which collectively feature tile floor,
carpeting, tables and chairs, chalk board, and dry erase board (exact features
vary from room to room). One room has separate restrooms, and one room contains
gymnastics equipment, available to license/co-sponsor gymnastics events.
8-lane, 25 yd by 25 meter Woodlands Pool offers a heated, handicapped
accessible indoor facility from Mid. Sept. to Mid May, and an outdoor Splashpad
open Memorial Day through Labor Day, which is available for afternoon party
rentals & includes admission to pool for up to 15 people (additional guests
pay regular admission or buy a punch card). Recently opened Patawomeck Park
features open recreational trails, parking areas, restrooms; future plans
include a fitness/aquatic center, camping areas, and additional parking areas.
Recreational activities include herbal classes, healthy fit classes, guitar
& piano lessons, Italian, Spanish, boating safety classes, gardening,
holiday special events, senior activities, summer camps,
gymnastics/tumbling/cheerleading, martial arts, dance, sports, cooking, drama,
arts/crafts, life guard training re-certification, American Heart Association
first aid (age 12 & up), American Heart Association CPR, and special
interest classes such as unicycle. Stafford Gym & Recreation Center houses
all gymnastics, tumbling and cheerleading classes and programs (classes for age
4 through adult, developmental & competitive gymnastics teams, summer
camps, school break camps, programs/field trips for private schools, child care
centers & home-schooled students), as well as some dance classes (e.g.
ballroom dance), a general recreation summer camp, the Music Together program
for ages 0-5, and Beginner Group Guitar Lessons. The Rowser Complex hosts the
Crafty Kids summer camp (1-week, half day PM, ages 6-11); Camp Discovery I
(ages 3-5, AM half day), Drama Kids International summer camps (Once upon a
Time & Playhouse for ages 6-10, Acting Academy Workshop for ages 11-15,
1-week sessions); Drama Kids International classes (Drama KinderKids for ages
3-5, DKI Acting Academy for ages 11-17, DKI Spring Performance for ages 5-10);
Beginner Group Guitar Lessons, Japanese Karate & Isshinryu Karate/CCC (age 7 & up), Aikido &
Kendo/Self-Defense classes (age 7 & up), Young Chefs Academy's Jr. Chefs
for ages 7-14, Creative Snacks for After School for ages 6-10 the Our Time
Parent/Child group for children ages 2-5 and their parents, Crafts classes
(e.g. Basket Weaving, age 16+); Herbal workshops (age 16+); Ballroom Dance (age
16+), Spanish (age 18+) & Italian I & II (age 15+), Seniors weekly
brunch (age 55+, 11 AM, Thursdays), Ceramics & Crafts (age 55+, MTW, 8 AM-4 PM). Courthouse Community Center hosts
a general recreation summer camp for ages 6-11, Camp Discovery II for ages 5-6,
a soccer camp for ages 5-12, karate classes, cheerleading & tumbling
classes for ages 3-14, Morning Play Groups for age 5 & under, the Music
Together program for ages 0-5, an Entrepreneurial Workshop for age 19 & up,
an Intro to Watercolors class (age 55+), a free gym walking class (all ages,
8:30-9:30 AM MWF), and Spring Coed Volleyball (adults, TTH eves). Curtis Park
houses Gauntlet Golf Course & Club, and hosts Curtis Park Camp for ages
6-11 & Teen Camp for ages 11-13, Camp Discovery II for ages 5-6, Adventure
Camp I for ages 12-14 & II for ages 12-15, Basketball Camp for ages 8-14,
Skateboard Camp for ages 9-14. Before- & after camp care are available for Camp Abnaki
and Camp Aquia (general recreation camps),
bus/van transportation is also available from specified locations for all camps
except Camp Aquia. Carl Lewis Community Center hosts
Heart-N-Sole dance classes (ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, basic
acrobatics) for ages 2 1/2 years through adult, and Young Chefs Academy's
Kinder Cooks for ages 3-6. Wrestling classes, for age 5 & up, meet at The
Kennel in Fredericksburg.
Spring Coed Softball Teams (age 17 & up) play a 12-game schedule (MWF eves,
TH for make-up games). Senior activities/classes (age 55+) include Aikido,
Seniorcize, Wii Bowling League, Learn to Crochet, Learn to Sew!, Beginning
Glass Fusing, Cartooning with Frank, Mahjong, May Flowers, Lunch, Bunko
(Monthly), Wednesday Movies (Monthly), and One Day Abstract Art Class. Programs
for children & teens with disabilities include Adaptive Gymnastics,
Adaptive Cooking (Kookin with Kool Kids), Mother's Day Craft, and Pot Luck
Gathering. Cheer Dynasty offers classes such as Dynamic All-Stars (baton
twirling, marching, and basic majorette skills) at Cheer Dynasty Gym in Stafford. The Music Studio in Stafford
offers a variety of music classes.
