Recreation facilities in Prince George's County include 44 community centers serving local neighborhoods and towns, which collectively feature gyms, meeting rooms, kitchens, multipurpose activity rooms, weight/fitness rooms and pre-school rooms indoors, and play equipment, athletic fields, multipurpose courts, picnic areas, and trails outdoors. All community centers offer Xtreme Teens and Pre-Teens programs on Friday and Saturday nights. The community centers collectively offer a variety of programs, classes, drop-in activities and special events for all ages, including sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, do-it-yourself instruction, tournaments, clubs, camps, and after-school recreation/child care. Some community centers are located inside of, or adjacent to, schools, and share facilities with them. Those centers are generally not open to the public during school hours. Other recreation facilities support a variety of specialized programs and activities. Allentown Fitness & Splash Park, Fairland Aquatics Complex at Fairland Regional Park, Wayne K. Curry Sports & Learning Center, Glenn Dale Splash Park, J. Franklyn Bourne Memorial Pool, Lane Manor Splash Park, Rollingcrest-Chillum Splash Pool, Theresa Banks Memorial Pool (currently closed for renovation), and North Barnaby Pool collectively offer indoor and/or outdoor facilities for all ages that support fitness, recreational, instructional, and competitive swimming, lifeguard training/certification classes, junior lifeguard camp (ages 13-15) and water play. Sports enthusiasts can participate in programs such as boxing, aerobics, swimming, football, soccer, gymnastics, track, and softball offered through the County's Sports, Health and Wellness Division. In addition, the Sports, Health and Wellness Division, in conjunction with Prince George's County Boys & Girls Club, offer a variety of seasonal competitive and non-competitive sports for people of all ages and skill and ability levels. Recreational and competitive sports facilities (spectator and/or active participant) include Prince George's Stadium, Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, Fairland Sports Center, and Prince George's Equestrian Center/The Show Place Arena. Tennis and racquetball facilities include the Fairland Tennis Bubble (indoor courts), and outdoor courts at Fairland Sports Center. Tennis classes are available for all ages & ability levels, as well as semi-private or private lessons, league play, and summer & winter junior tennis teams for girls and boys. Gymnastics facilities include a 12,000 sq. ft. indoor center at Fairland Sports Center; classes are available for all ages from infant through teen, and USA Gymnastics offers competitive training for boys and girls at all ability levels. Fairland's fitness center includes a weight room and a dance room where fitness classes meet; fitness center passes and combo fit-n-swim passes are available; the center offers personal training, custom designed workouts and Drop-In Child Care in the West Room (TWTH, 9 to 11 AM, ages 6 weeks through 11 years). Boundless Playground, a public/private venture located next to the Fairland Aquatics Center parking lot, has at least 70% of its equipment and area universally accessible, and features a sand play area with a shade structure, a pre-school play area for children ages 2-5 and a swing area. Golf facilities, both 9-hole and 18-hole, which support both recreational and tournament play, include Enterprise Golf Course, Henson Creek Golf Course, Paint Branch Golf Complex and Training Center, and Kentland Youth Golf Training Center; the Frequent Fairways Club card (cost of $10) provides discounts, e-mail specials, and the opportunities to accrue points for free play and to reserve tee times up to 10 days in advance (versus 6 day advance reservation for the general public). Ice skating facilities include Herbert Wells & Tucker Road Ice Rinks, and The Gardens Ice House (Herbert Wells & Gardens Ice House used for roller and/or street hockey during the summer, Tucker Road's indoor rink offers ice skating year round); the facilities collectively feature indoor warming rooms, party rooms, and snack bars. Tucker Road offers ice skating lessons, hockey clinics, day camps, birthday parties, and rental of the facility; The Gardens Ice House hosts a variety events, including private parties, trade shows, graduations, and meetings. The senior activity centers collectively offer recreational programs, classes, and services for independent and active seniors, including bingo, bid whist, pinochle, dance & exercise/fitness classes & facilities, computer lab, library, glee club, trips, health seminars, tax assistance, legal aid, 55-Alive program, Prince George's Community College extension classes (age 60 & up), lunch program and transportation (through the Prince George's County Department of Family Services). Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center hosts several countywide events, including the annual Grandparent/Grandchild Festival, a Seniors Weight Training Meet, and Centenarian Celebration. Beltsville, Bowie, Deerfield Run, Glenn Dale, Good Luck, Harmony Hall, Kentland, Kettering/Largo and Upper Marlboro Community Centers all host a state licensed morning pre-school program (locations may vary from year to year) for toilet trained children ages 3-5 (ages vary by site) featuring licensed, professional staff and age-appropriate activities. College Park and Suitland Community Centers each host a licensed before school care program for children ages 5-12 that follows the public schools calendar and runs from August to June. Both centers also host the Kids' Care After-School Program for children ages 5-12 (residents of Prince George's County), along with Beltsville, Cedar Heights, Deerfield Run, Glassmanor, Indian Queen, Kettering/Largo, Langley Park, Marlow Heights, Peppermill, Rollingcrest-Chillum, Seat Pleasant, Suitland, and William Beanes Community Centers. The programs provide structured recreation activities, including sports, arts and crafts, reading, storytelling, music, film, drama, science, nature, and special events. Kids' Care after school programs also offer specialized Therapeutic Recreation care for individuals with disabilities who are between the ages of 5 and 20; these programs, which also follow the public schools calendar, feature small group sizes, high staff/participant ratios, adapted equipment, and other services as needed. Birchwood City Community Park serves teens & young adults ages 13-20, Marlow Heights Community Center serves children ages 5-12, Palmer Park Community Center & Vansville Neighborhood Recreation Center serve individuals ages 5-20. Summer programs for children & teens include Day Camps and Playgrounds. Summer Day Camps offers structured, full-day and half-day camps for children and teens ages 3 1/2-17 years (most sessions are 2-weeks long, with before- & after-camp options available). General recreation camps (Explorers) feature arts & crafts, sports, swimming and field trips; specialty camps offer various themes/activities, including nature, visual and performing arts, computers, and sports. Drop-in Summer Playgrounds and Xtreme Teen Center programs serve children and teens, ages 6-17 from 9 AM to 3 PM (ages 6-12, hours for teen programs vary) at elementary schools and M-NCPPC facilities throughout Prince George's County; registered participants can come and go during the day, and attend some days but not others. Nominal fees apply for off-site transportation and special events; and sites are subject to change based on location availability and sufficient registration. Conservation area sites and natural area parks include Aquasco Farm, Billingsley Point, Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Cedarhaven Fishing Area, Cheltenham Wetlands Park, Cosca Regional Park (Clearwater Nature Center), Clyde Watson Boating Area, Dueling Creek Natural Area, Fran Uhler, Governor's Bridge & Jug Bay Natural Areas, Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, Patuxent River Park (Patuxent Water Trail, Mt Rainier Nature & Recreation Center), Queen Anne Fishing Area, Walker Mill Regional Park, Watkins Regional Park (Old Maryland Farm, Watkins Nature Center), School House Pond, Mt Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park, Suitland Bog and Queen Anne Canoe Launch (next to Patuxtent River 4-H center). Cultural arts facilities include Harmony Hall Regional Center, Montpelier Arts Center, Prince George's Publick Playhouse; Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, and Brentwood Art Center; these centers collectively house art galleries, artists' studios, and classrooms; host performing arts events such as plays, concerts and dance performances, and offer performing and visual arts classes, including painting, drawing, photography, theater and dance. The Department of Parks and Recreation also offers performing and visual arts classes at its community center locations.

County recreational parks and facilities in Upper Marlboro include Upper Marlboro Community Center, Patuxent Community Center, Kettering/Largo Community Center, Billingsley Point, Cheltenham Wetlands Park, Patuxent River Park, Mt Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park, Mt Rainier Nature/Recreation Center, Patuxent Water Trail, Queen Anne Fishing Area, School House Pond, Suitland Bog, and Watkins Regional Park. Upper Marlboro Community Center, newly renovated, features a gym, a fitness room, an activities room, a meeting room, a warming kitchen, a pre-school room, two racquetball courts, office space, and restrooms; outdoor facilities include a tennis court, play equipment, a softball field and a soccer field. Recreation programs include sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, self-improvement, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction; the center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities throughout the year. The Xtreme Teens program provides exclusive recreation time for teens every Friday and Saturday night from 7-10 PM. A preschool (ages 3-5) operates on weekday mornings from 9 AM to Noon, 3-day (MWF) and 5-day options are available. Kettering/Largo Community Center, 431 Watkins Park Drive, 301-390-8390 (next to Watkins Regional Park) is part of a community park/school center (through the cooperative efforts of the Board of Education and M-NCPPC). The center features a gym, multi-purpose room, exercise/fitness room, pre-school area, dance room, arts and crafts room, game room, offices, storage areas, and restrooms with showers; adjoining Perrywood Elementary School offers some areas of joint school/center use. Recreation programs include sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, self-improvement, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction; the center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities throughout the year. The Xtreme Teens program provides exclusive recreation time for teens every Friday and Saturday night from 7-10 PM. Patuxent Community Center, 4410 Bishopmill Drive, 301-780-7577, operates after school hours on weekdays and from 9 AM-2 PM on Saturdays. The center features a lobby, office space, restrooms and a basketball gym; and offers recreation classes, including fitness, martial arts, and dance. Teens with a valid M-NCPPC Center ID card can participate in Drop-in Basketball at scheduled times. 430 acre Billingsley Point/Billingsley House Museum, 6900 Green Landing Road, 301-627-0730, named for Major John Billingsley, is one of the oldest structures remaining in Prince George's County; the museum features rooms furnished in period decor, and is available for both large and small gatherings, as well as business meetings. 200 acre Cheltenham Wetlands Park, 14955 Pennsylvania Ave, 301-627-7755 (Park Ranger Office), managed by M-NCPPC, features foot trails, boardwalks and scenic overlooks; the park provides habitat for various species of birds, insects, mammals, fish, and amphibians. The park, open daily from dawn to dusk, offers nature programs about wildlife and ecology. Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Tour, 16000 Croom Airport Road, 301-627-6074, features a 4-mile route open daily for hiking and bicycling, and on Sundays for cars. The tour, a cooperative project between M-NCPPC and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources aimed at protecting natural resources, shorelines and water quality in Chesapeake Bay (the Chesapeake Bay Initiative); connects Jug Bay Natural Area with Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and features educational signs, observation towers and a 1,000-foot long wooden bridge across the marsh. Patuxent River Park/Jug Bay Natural Area, 16000 Croom Airport Road, 301-627-6074, houses Jug Bay Natural Area, the headquarters for the 2,000-acre Patuxent River Park properties. Jug Bay Natural Area is part of the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Maryland, a nationwide network of diverse coastal estuaries that serve as labs for scientific research, education and monitoring; and a site on the Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network, a partnership of parks, refuges, museums, historical communities and trails where visitors can experience and learn about the Chesapeake Bay. The National Audubon Society has designated Jug Bay Natural Area as an "Important Birding Area". For the public, Jug Bay Natural Area features over 8 miles of woodland trails for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders; facilities for primitive tent camping and day-use picnics; year-round fishing areas; waterfowl hunting with limited seasonal blind sites; standard boat ramps (no tie-ups or fuel facilities); canoeing and kayaking (daily & hourly rentals available); and guided trips (seasonal basis, include river ecology tours on a pontoon boat feature the river's wetlands, wildlife and history). Boardwalks provide easy access to Black Walnut Creek Nature Study Area. and guided nature hikes led by naturalists explore the biologically diverse river communities. The park also is home to the Patuxent Rural Life Museums, a collection of late 19th century and early 20th century buildings that tell the story of life in southern Maryland. Patuxent Water Trail is a self-guided paddling trail, accessible from many points in several counties along the river for kayaking and canoeing enthusiasts; a brochure/map is available, call 301-627-6074. Queen Anne Canoe Launch, 18405 Queen Anne Road, open daily from sunrise to dusk, with a combination lock access, offers a floating pier and parking. Queen Anne Fishing Area, 18700 Queen Anne Bridge Road, offers seasonal fishing along the river banks (closed in winter, fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older). School House Pond, 301-699-2255, across the street from the Prince George's County Administration Building, offers a 12-acre pond, parkland, a fishing pier, a photo-blind, a 3/4 mile boardwalk, a picnic area, and a nature trail. Suitland Bog offers interpretive programs and hikes; the wetlands provides habitat for various carnivorous plants, as well as rare and threatened plants. Guided hikes are available to the public with advance reservation, and special programs are offered at designated times. Patuxent River 4-H Center, 18405 Queen Anne Road, 301-218-3079, is a cooperative venture between the Patuxent River 4-H Foundation, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service. The site features cabins for overnight use, a main activity center with meeting rooms and dining facilities, and a pavilion for picnics; catering services are available. The center, accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA) offers a variety of daily, weekly and overnight environmental education programs and activities for people of all ages (with advanced reservations). Patuxent River Scenic Trail at Queen Anne, 18405 Queen Anne Road, 301-627-6074; a 4-mile natural surface woodland trail for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding, offers scenic overlooks, interpretive exhibits rest stops, and color-coded markers to make the trail easy to follow. Mt Rainier Nature and Recreation Center in Patuxent River Park, 4701 31st Place, 301-927-2163; serves as both a nature center and a recreation center; hosts various nature-related, structured, interpretive programs on urban wildlife, urban beautification, and animal care; and welcomes drop-in visitors (no admission fee for exhibits), as well as special events and trips for all ages. The facility is available for birthday parties and room rentals. Watkins Regional Park, 301 Watkins Park Drive, 301-218-6700, houses Old Maryland Farm, 301-218-6770; and Watkins Nature Center, 301-218-6702. Old Maryland Farm serves as an agricultural exhibit and livestock display area; volunteer opportunities related to animal care, greenhouse and garden maintenance, and visitor services are available for all ages. The facility offers pony rides, hay rides, farm demonstrations and group tours; rental is available for birthday parties. Watkins Nature Center features live animal displays, including tive owls, hawks, reptiles, amphibians, and insects; indoor and outdoor ponds, a songbird feeding area, and a squirrel gym; the Discovery Cottage gives children the chance to explore the life of a naturalist. Other park features include Watkins Tennis Bubble or outdoor tennis (301-218-6870); Picnic areas & athletic field (permits, 301-918-8111), campgrounds (permits, 301-218-6870), and seasonal features (Chesapeake Carousel, train, miniature golf course, 301-218-6757). Mt Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park, 16801 Mt Calvert Road, 301-627-1286, is a historical and archaeological site representing over 8000 years of human activity in Prince George's County. The park allows hiking, features ongoing archaeological and historical research, and provides programs and hands-on activities for the public.

Recreational facilities in Bowie include Bowie Municipal Gym, Allen Pond Park, Bowie Ice Arena, Bowie Senior Center, an 18-hole golf course, and 10 other parks. 27,000 square foot Bowie Municipal Gym on Northview Drive (next to Bowie Senior Center) features full sized basketball courts overlaid with intermediate size basketball courts and overlaid with smaller volleyball courts which can also be used for young basketball players. The gym can be divided into quarters with ceiling to floor curtains to allow for various activities at the same time; the facility also includes two team rooms that can be divided into four smaller rooms, a sitting and concession area, and office and storage rooms. The gym offers scheduled time to sports teams and organizations; open gym is offered to City residents and non-residents with a Bowie postal address, with the purchase of an annual membership. 85-acre Allen Pond Park, 3330 Northview Drive, 301-809-3011, is a multi-use park featuring a 10-acre stocked pond, lighted ball fields, picnic areas and pavilions, walking and biking trails, a lighted basketball court, a fitness station and playground areas. The park houses an Ice Arena, Amphitheater, Boathouse, Skate Park, and Opportunity Park, which offers  a fully handicapped accessible experiences at its tot lot, school-aged playground, fitness cluster and fishing pier. The park hosts a number of events, including open-air concerts, Fourth of July fireworks, and several community festivals. Bowie Ice Arena is a year round ice skating facility (closed for maintenance in May and June) that offers public skating sessions, group and private lessons for skaters age 18 months through adults, and skating camps in July & August (ages 3-15); the arena houses a snack bar (301-809-3090) and pro shop (Blades of Bowie, 301-249-0755). The arena hosts the Bowie Hockey Club and the Bowie Figure Skating Club; both non-profit groups. Bowie Hockey Club offers instructional, recreational and travel hockey and holds two annual tournaments during the Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend in January and the President's Day weekend in February. Bowie Figure Skating Club offers ice time for skaters of all levels, both amateur and professional and sponsors several competitive synchronized skating teams from age 7 through high school. Metroliners Synchro teams and the Bowie High School Ice Dog team also use the arena. 10,000 square foot Bowie Skate Park (membership required) is open for skateboard and inline skating and features both street and vertical skating elements; spectator seating is available. Allen Pond Park (along with Whitemarsh Park) has picnic areas available for rent (301-809-3011 or 301-262-6200, extension 3011). The city's parks collectively feature walking/biking trails (some ADA accessible), adult & youth sports (baseball, softball, soccer, football) fields (some lighted), basketball and tennis courts (some lighted), playgrounds and picnic areas. Features unique to particular parks include a concession stand available for rental at Blacksox Park, 2201 Mitchellville Road; and a campfire circle at 182-acre Whitemarsh Park, which also houses the Bowie Playhouse. Acorn Hill Park, intersection of Sage Lane & Stonybrook Drive, is home to the City’s Memorial Tree Program. Dog Park, 3600 Northview Drive, features fenced-in areas where dogs are permitted to run off-leash, and parking. 45-acre Foxhill Park, Route 197, offers a stocked lake and is operated by the Maryland-National Park and Planning Commission. Town Green, 13090 9th Street, offers a patio for live music performances and hosts the annual Saturday Afternoon Summer Concerts. Veterans Park, 12700 9th Street, features open space and a memorial to Bowie residents who served in the military; the park hosts the annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies. County recreational facilities include Bowie Community Center, 3209 Stonybrook Drive, 301-464-1737; South Bowie Community Center, 1717 Pittsfield Lane, 301-249-1622; Fran Uhler Natural Area, 10300 Lemons Bridge Road, 301-627-6074; and Governor's Bridge Natural Area, 7600 Governor Bridge Road, 301-627-6074. Bowie Community Center features a gym, meeting rooms, and a game area. Recreation programs and classes include sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, self-improvement, computers, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction; the center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities. The Xtreme Teens program offers exclusive recreation times for pre-teens & teens (6:30-8:30 PM Sat for preteens, 7-10 PM Sat for teens). Huntington Community Center features a lobby, multi-purpose rooms, a fitness room, lounge, arts & crafts room, gallery space, warming kitchen, and conference room indoors; outdoor facilities include a basketball court and playground equipment. Recreation programs include Sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, self-improvement, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction. The Xtreme Teens program offers exclusive recreation times for teens (7-10 PM Fri/Sat for teens). The center is available for rentals. South Bowie Community Center, recently renovated, features a gym with basketball court and scoreboard, racquetball court, fitness room and free weight area, reception area, conference room, computer lab, electronic teen area with flat-screen TV and a Wii, kitchen, family bathroom with shower, and picnic shelter. The Xtreme Teens program offers exclusive recreation times for pre-teens & teens (7:00-9:30 PM Fri for preteens, 7-10 PM Fri/Sat for teens). Fran Uhler Natural Area features wooded floodplains, non-tidal wetlands, upland forests and meadows, five miles of woodland trails for hiking, bicycling, and nature study; and a boardwalk loop trail for a closer look at Patuxent River; Prince George's Audubon Society helps manage the area with its" Adopt-a-Refuge" program. Governor's Bridge Natural Area houses an 8-acre lake stocked with large mouth bass ("catch & release" fishing is allowed), encircled by a loop hike/bike trail that allows for nature study activities. The area provides access to the Patuxent River for canoes and kayaks with a launch pad and parking facilities; it's also the initial launch point for the Patuxent River Water Trail.

Recreation facilities in Hyattsville include several city-run parks, three county run community centers, and a county run senior activity center. The city parks collectively feature playgrounds with play equipment, benches, grassy areas, picnic pavilions, walking and biking trails/paths (connect to Northwest Branch Trail), basketball courts, and soccer fields. Features unique to particular parks include flower gardens and picnic tables (no pavilion) at Robert J. King Memorial Park, Gallatin Street at 42nd Place; a pond at Duck Pond Park, west end of Wells Parkway; big, shady oak trees at Deitz Park, 4100 block of Oliver Street; and a Mobility Playground at Huerich Park, Ager Road and Nicholson Street. Centennial Park, Baltimore Avenue and Hamilton Street, houses a bird sculpture called Vainglorious, created by Andrei Trach as part of the Prince George’s County birds-eye-view exhibition. 32 acre Magruder Park, Hyattsville's main park facility (40th Avenue and Hamilton Street), also features tennis & volleyball courts, football & softball fields, a recreation center with restrooms, and a swimming pool. Its athletic fields and picnic pavilions are available by permit only. Langley Park Community Center houses the Northern Area Administrative Offices and features a multi-purpose room with a stage, meeting rooms, a multi-purpose room/pre-school room, fitness room, kitchen, game room, offices, and a senior lounge; outdoor facilities include play equipment and a field on the adjacent school property. Recreation programs/activities include sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, self-improvement, computers, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction; the center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities throughout the year. The center features special displays and exhibits for drop-in visitors; offers community outreach nature programs; hosts special events such as Earth Day (free event with animal shows, a puppet show, crafts, games, entertainment, and vendors); organizes trips; and is available for birthday parties and room rentals. The center will offer a Home-School Science Program (starting Fall 2009) for ages 8-10 and 11-13. The First Saturday of the Month Adventure Seekers Kids program takes children to places/events such as the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C., Lake Artemesia in Berwyn Heights MD, and Watkins Regional Park to visit the farm and feed the chickens, see an owl show at the nature center, play miniature golf, ride the train, and other activities. When reopened, the complex will feature new meeting rooms, multipurpose rooms, a fitness room, a game room, and an arts and crafts room; new handicapped (ADA) accessible bathrooms; new entrance, lobby, and a college-sized gym; new landscaping and accessories; and new glazing systems for the pool. Improvements after reopening will include upgrading the ball field and installing a new lighting system; removing existing play equipment, relocating the play area to be adjacent to the building, so children will no longer need to cross drive lanes, and installing new play structures equivalent to those on the former playground.

Buddy Attick & Lake Artemesia parks offer walking trail around their respective lakes (Greenbelt Lake at Attick Park), picnic area, and BBQ's. Both parks attract ducks and geese. Schrom Hills Park features a fit trail, gardens with benches, BBQ pavilion, and ball field.
