Greenway-Warrenton Trail, a combination path and historic area that includes a
park/plaza area with a railroad theme behind the Depot Restaurant, a short
section of rail line installed by the Piedmont Railroaders Club for a restored
caboose donated by the Norfolk and Western Railroad (open to the public from
April through October every first Saturday of the month from 9-11 AM, group
tours can be arranged), a small parking area, and a planned amphitheater with a
railroad flat car to be used as a stage. The trail, at the end of south 4th St, is

Recreational facilities in Goldvein include 14 acre Monroe Park, a donated facility from Mr.
and Mrs. Pat Monroe that features the Gold Mining Museum, 540-752-5330
(hands-on gold-panning demonstrations are offered regularly, with advance
registration), the Prospector Pavilion (available for rental, includes a
charcoal grill and space for up to 60 people), a football/soccer field,
softball field, playground, horseshoe pits, beach volleyball court, and 1/4
mile asphalt exercise pathway. The Gold Mining Museum, open 9:30 AM-5:00 PM
TWFS, houses the Mess Hall, Assay Office and Bunk House buildings.

recently renovated, now features a picnic area at the trailhead with tables and
grills, and a 1/4 hiking trail alongside a stream. 88-acre Northern Fauquier
Sports Complex features ball fields, 3 playgrounds, a paved walking trail,
indoor restrooms, concession stands, picnic shelters, an amphitheatre, meeting
room, and a children's fishing lake; a Grand Opening is expected in the fall of
2009.
Midland Recreation Fauquier

Recreational facilities in Midland include county owned & operated C. M.
Crockett Park, 10066 Rogues Rd, 540-788-4867, which houses Germantown Lake,
available for fishing; and features toddler and youth swings and playgrounds,
senior's picnic area with a new grill, a gentle slope for access to the site
and wider access to accommodate wheelchairs; a seasonal concession stand open
for snacks, drinks and boat rentals, "The Forge" Ropes Course, taught
by certified personnel of Elements to Excellence, Inc., 540-370-1555; and
Fauquier County Commemorative Gardens, which is expected to offer The
Commemorative Grove, a planned gallery of indigenous trees such as Beeches,
Maples, and Oaks. The park hosts a number of Environmental Education Programs
for children in grades K-12 (the grade levels for particular programs vary),
including Nature Colors and Shapes Cards, Blindfold Surprise, Web of Life,
Who's Clues?, Hide and Seek, Feathered Feeders, Going…Going, Population Game,
Little Limnologists, Endangered Populations, Treasured Maps, A Forest Grows, A
Lot of Rot, Bats, Native or Not, Changing of the Green, and Changing of the Green.
All of the programs have particular educational objectives and involve a
combination of activities, including sitting, standing, walking and running.

Recreation facilities in Warrenton include 2 city run parks
(Rady & Academy Hill, as of March
1, 2009), and 2 county facilities (Eva Walker Park and Warrenton
Branch Greenway). Academy
Hill Park
on Academy Hill Road
features a baseball field and paved parking lot. Eva Walker Park on Alexandria
Pike and Haiti Street,
offers a large green space area, playground equipment, picnic facilities and a
basketball court. Rady
Park on Fauquier Road also
features picnic facilities, along with a paved trail for bike riding,
roller-blading or jogging, baseball & volleyball fields and a paved parking
lot. Warrenton Branch Greenway, with a trailhead at S. 4th Street, offers a 1.25 mile paved
walking, biking, skating and skateboarding trail, and features a renovated
caboose, available for tours on a limited schedule. Other recreation facilities
include WARF, which has 3 levels; the aquatic levels feature a 25 yard by 25
meter indoor Competition Pool, a Leisure Pool with a Water Slide, Lazy River,
Zero Depth Entry Pool a Therapeutic Spa with 104 degree water, and rooms
available for birthday parties and other group events; the main level features
a 2,580 square foot Fitness Room with fitness machines and plasma television
screens, and a 1,790 square foot Multi-Purpose Room for group fitness classes
and other group events. Larry Weeks Community Pools at Vint Hill offers summer
group swimming lessons for ages 6 months to 12 years, private lessons for all
ages, and water aerobics classes for age 16 & up.
