County run recreation facilities in Culpeper County
include Culpeper Sports Complex, Galbreath-Markshall
Park, Laurel Valley
Park-Mountain Bike Trail, Lenn
Park, and Spilman Park. Newly opened 59-acre Culpeper
Sports Complex, Route 29 & Local Route 666 near downtown Culpeper, features
16 football, baseball, softball and soccer fields; plans are also underway for
a concessions area, restrooms, a possible pool, basketball courts and
playground equipment. Galbreath-Markshall
Park, 1401 Old Fredericksburg Rd, offers a
multi-use athletic field, a t-ball field, and a basketball court (all available
for reservation). 300-acre Laurel Valley Park currently features 4 miles of
Mountain Bike Trail, jointly designed, built, maintained, and operated by the
county and the Culpeper Area Mountain Biking Organization (CAMBO), whose
members can currently use the trail for scheduled group rides (membership forms

Undeveloped Lenn Park is currently undergoing plans for its development,
including field surveying, a base map, wetland permitting and construction of
roadways, building a parking lot, and an entrance way. Features are expected to
include adult softball fields, a radio controlled airplane air strip, and a
walking trail that follows Mountain Run Creek and leads to a landmark location.
Advanced Training Services (ATS)
is possibly providing heavy equipment and involving its students with hands-on
experience in designing and constructing the park. Spilman Park
features a picnic pavilion with ten 8-seat picnic tables, 4 charcoal grills, a
multipurpose field, portable lavatory, walking trails, and a tot-lot playground
with swing set; its facilities can be reserved for family picnics or reunions.
Recreation programs and activities include S.T.A.R. Puppy Kindergarten (people
age 10 & up), Advanced Digital Photography (age 16 & up), Ballroom
Dance I (age 16 & up), Beginning Horseback Riding (ages 7-12), Beginning
Manners I, II (age 10 & up), Beginning Tumbling I, II (ages 2-5), Kids
Club: Itty Bitty Bug Safari (ages 1 1/2-5), Canine Good Citizen/Intro to Pet
Therapy (age 10 & up), Beginning Guitar Part A (age 11 & up), and Cardio
Kickboxing (age 18 & up). Summer camp programs are offered in June, July
and August. Class locations include the Community Room, Binns Middle School,
and 10291 Homeland Road
in Rixeyville (horseback riding). Youth sports groups that offer league play

Football League, 540-423-4095. Community Organizations include Culpeper Blue
Angels All-star Cheer & Dance, 540-727-2807, Blue Ridge Chorale of
Culpeper, and Culpeper Carousel, 540-829-6444. A senior citizen's group (Silver
Club, annual $5 membership) meets every Wednesday from 10 AM-2 PM at Culpeper
County Library for a covered-dish lunch and activities like bingo, speakers
(presentations from community organizations, police, businesses, county
officials, entertainers, historians, authors, storytellers, etc), holiday
parties, crafts and other projects, and trips (usually bi-monthly, include local
trips to sites of interest, lunch cruises and trips to regional locations such
as Cumberland Scenic Railroad, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Riverside Dinner
Theater, National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and Graves Mountain Lodge).
Club members often serve as volunteers and mentors as well.

Recreation facilities in Culpeper include town operated
Mountain Run Lake & Yowell Meadow Parks, which feature soccer fields,
baseball fields, tennis courts, pavilions (all available for reservation on a
first-come, first-serve basis), and a spillway (at Mountain Run Lake).
