Seattle Public Schools operates 97 schools covering grades PK-12, which serve 45,800 students. 58 schools are elementary level (generally grades PK-5 or PK-6), 10 are middle schools (generally grades 6-8 or 7-8), 8 are elementary/middle (K-8) schools, 12 are high schools (generally grades 9-12), 9 are alternative schools or special programs. Student/teacher ratio is 18:1 (district-wide). The district employs 2,619 classroom teachers. 60% of teachers have a Masters Degree or higher. Per Pupil cost is $9,242. A variety of programs, services, and personnel are provided for Limited English Speaking (LEP), Gifted & Talented, and Special Needs students. 11.5% of students are enrolled in the Transitional Bilingual program, 13.7% receive Special Education services. Support services for all students, as needed, include speech/language, tutoring and counseling.
