Metro Parks Tacoma, a municipal Corp created in 1907 to manage park, recreation and zoological services and facilities for Tacoma (and now also Dash Point and Browns Point) maintains about 57 parks and open spaces in the Tacoma area including Point Defiance Park with its Zoo and Aquarium, Boathouse Marina, and Fort Nisqually (Living History Museum); Northwest Trek Wildlife Park near Eatonville; W. W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory; Meadow Park Golf Course; and Ruston Way waterfront parks including Les Davis Pier. The parks and other facilities collectively feature playgrounds, picnic areas, paths/trails, sports fields (baseball, softball, football, soccer), tennis & basketball courts, swimming pools, skateboarding and restrooms. Point Defiance Marina, Owen Beach and Titlow Beach and Park Piers offer boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking and hiking. Fort Nisqually offers summer camps and educational programs for preschool and school age children. Tacoma Nature Center offers nature programs for preschoolers, and science programs for home-schooled children. Recreational facilities in Lakewood include 10 parks, which collectively feature baseball fields, basketball courts, boat launches, fishing, picnic shelters, playgrounds, swimming, trails, skate park areas and restrooms. Harry Todd Community Park also features tennis courts and Fort Steilacoom Park offers soccer fields. 100 acre Lakewood Game Refuge, managed by the State Fish & Wildlife Dept, offers walking & bicycling trails. Recreation programs are offered for all ages. Youth and/or Adult sports include tennis, soccer, cross country, softball and basketball; youth can also participate in cheerleading. Dance classes for preschoolers and primary school age children include creative movement, jazz and ballet, programs for all ages include hip hop. Grayland Park, adjacent to the Memorial Center, features a wading pool. Pioneer Park, in downtown Puyallup next to the library, features a statue of Ezra Meeker (a pioneer citizen), a Veteran's Memorial, a pavilion, tot lot, wading pool, grassy area, benches, and mature trees. Pioneer Park houses the Puyallup Farmers Market during the spring and summer. 5-mile Puyallup Riverfront Trail runs from the westerly city limit to the East Main Bridge, with future connections with Pierce County's Foothills Trail that connects to Mt. Rainier National Park, into the city of Sumner and north to Tukwila on the Interurban Trail. Rainier Woods Park offers a wooded area and grassy open space, Sam Peach Park includes a multi-use area. 80 acre Wildwood Park features covered picnic shelters, a day camp facility, exercise trails, several paths, a caretaker's house, and a historic water reservoir. 10,000 sq. ft. Puyallup Skate Park offers facilities for skateboards, rollerblades, and bicycles, spectator seating, year round lighting and parking for 15 vehicles. The Dog Park, a new 2/3 of an acre off-leash facility between Clarks Creek Park North and South, is fully fenced and available for use by pet owners.

structures for various ages. Colburn Park: next to Fife Swim Center, offers a

Recreational facilities in Gig Harbor include a number of parks (some municipal, others operated by the park district), which collectively offer opportunities for birdwatching, hiking, walking, bicycling and roller-blading/skating, and collectively feature restrooms and Visitor Information Kiosks. 5.8 acre Crescent Creek Park offers basketball and tennis courts and a softball field, a playground, a picnic ramada available on a first-come, first-served use, and a restroom. The park also features some of Gig Harbor's largest cedar trees and the Crescent Creek estuary. Jerisich Dock/Skansie Brothers Park offers a pedestrian pier, picnic tables, and a public dock. 17 acre Wilkinson Park features an authentic, turn-of-the-century dairy barn and holly orchard and walking tours. Skansie Brothers Park hosts summertime activities and family entertainment Key Peninsula Sports Complex/Volunteer Park offers 22 acres including ballfields (soccer, tennis and horseshoe), trails and picnic shelters. Gig Harbor Skate Park (next to the Civic Center) is available for skateboarding and rollerblading from dawn to dusk. BMX Park provides an off-road experience for bikers. Joemma Beach and Kopachuck State Parks offer saltwater shoreline and facilities for camping, boating, swimming and fishing. Kopachuck State Park also offers nearly 80 picnic sites and opportunities for water skiing and SCUBA diving. 122-acre McCormick Forest Park offers old growth trees, wildlife and 4 miles of walking, bicycling and horse trails. Rosedale Park includes a fenced soccer field, a softball diamond, outdoor tennis courts and a basketball court. Madrona Links Golf Course (3604 22nd Ave NW, 253-851-5193) is a public course available to golfing enthusiasts. Recreation programs in Gig Harbor include youth activities such as the Amazement Magic Workshop, Super Science Saturdays, Creative Cartooning Workshops, Art for Kids School, Emerald City Martial Arts Tournament, Basketball & Soccer (through Peninsula Athletic Association).

Milton has no organized recreation program. The public works department is responsible for maintenance of Milton parks, which collectively feature children's play areas and equipment and picnic areas/tables. Hill Tower Park offers a paved area for basketball and other court sports, handicap accessible portable restrooms and parking for up to ten cars. Triangle Park, served by 2 parking areas, features a tee-ball/softball field, lighted tennis courts, a veteran's memorial (dedicated in 2007 by Milton-Fife-Edgewood VFW Post #11401) and hosts the City of Milton's annual summer picnic and various other community events. West Milton Park offers a baseball backstop, bleachers, and outdoor lighting for evening sports events. Milltown Commons Skatepark features a 7,000 square foot horseshoe shaped bowl with depths of 4-9 feet, including an over-vertical clam shell and bowl door, and a 3,000 sq foot street course with ledges, china banks, a manual pad and rails. Interurban Trail is a 100 foot wide right-of-way property that includes large stands of coniferous trees and several distinctive natural features, such as the East Branch of Hylebos Creek (Sweetwater Creek), which is a part of West Milton Nature Preserve, an area focused on rehabilitating salmon and trout populations. Milton Activity Center, located in the City Hall Building, 1000 Laurel St, 253-922-6586, offers a variety of activities for senior citizens, including fitness classes, arts & crafts, dance classes (ballroom, tap), a weekly social dance with a live band (Tues. aft.), a monthly ballroom dance evening (Sat), yoga, chair massage, monthly foot care session (by appt), pinochle, dog obedience class and the AARP Defensive Driving program. A Hula class is also offered at 3:30 on Fridays for ages 8 & up.

A Fitness Room offers exercise machines, free weights and aerobic equipment including two powered treadmills. Dance classes include Ballroom Dance, Tap Dance, Line Dancing, and the professional Steilacoom Dance Company (Auditions are held monthly). Other programs include Bingo, Let’s Play Bridge!, and monthly Van Trip to selected attractions throughout the Puget Sound area. Youth classes include Ballet/Around Town (K-5), Gymnastics (age 4+) and Sports, including Indoor/Outdoor Soccer, Basketball, T-ball/coach pitch, and Flag Football (3-8 years). Playtime Adventures, for ages 3-5, meets during the school year with 2-hour sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Key Pen Parks includes Home Park, Taylor Bay Park, Maple Hollow, 360 Park, Rocky Creek, and Volunteer Park, which collectively feature hiking and walking trails, water access/boating, playgrounds, picnic areas, and restroom facilities. Home Park occupies the site of a former illegal dumping ground. 39 acre Taylor Park includes shoreline, wetlands, a pocket estuary, mudflats, lagoon, salt marshes, a small creek, a larger creek, forested uplands, riparian areas and patches of open meadows. Non-motorized boats are allowed. 58-acre Maple Hollow Park offers a circle trail with mid-point access to a stretch of beach along the Puget Sound with views of Mount Rainier. 360 Park, named for its size of 360 acres, is known only for its trails, additional recreational facilities are planned. 224 acre Rocky Creek Conservation Area is largely woodlands and streams. 20 acre Volunteer Park & Sports Complex features softball fields, picnic shelter, a skate park, soccer field, horseshoe pits, and a 9-hole disc golf course. Volunteer Park & Sports Complex is the annual site of the Key Peninsula Community Fair and hosts softball tournaments and other events. Recreation programs available to youth up through age 12 include youth sports clinics, dance classes, and camps featuring themes/activities such as Eco Adventure, Mad Science, Teamwork Theater, Creative Artz, and Teamwork Fitness. Zumba fitness class is offered for teens/adults age 16 & up.

Recreational facilities in Buckley include Buckley Hall, 833 Main St, 360-829-1921 (available for rental), Buckley Skate Park, Thunderbird Park, and Buckley Senior Center, which offers various classes, programs and services for individuals age 55 or older, as well as charter day trips and extended trips. Buckley Youth Center, whose construction was approved in August, 2007, will offer classes & activities for youth/teens. Thunderbird Park hosts the Country Farmers Market on Saturdays during the spring and summer (through September). Foothills Trail starts in downtown Buckley, and is suitable for walking, bicycling and in-line skating, with accessibility for wheelchairs and a soft shoulder path for horses.

Bethel Recreation is a division of Bethel School District that provides youth sports programs, including girls & boys basketball for grades 1-9 in the winter, girls & boys baseball for grades K-6 in the spring and girls volleyball/boys football for grades 4-6 in the fall.
