Recreational facilities in San Rafael include San Rafael Community Center (Community Service Dept Headquarters), Pickleweed Community Center and Library, 50 Canal St, 415-485-3077, Terra Linda Community Center & Pool, 670 Del Gando Rd, 415-485-3344, and Falkirk Cultural Center 1408 Mission Ave 415-485-3328. San Rafael Community Center is San Rafael's largest center and features an auditorium, 5 club rooms, a lounge, Lonatese garden patio, commercial style kitchen, theatrical stage, portable wet bars and P.A. system. Terra Linda Community Center, 670 Del Gando Rd, 415-485-3344, features a community swimming pool, 5 classrooms, a ceramic studio, a photography lab, preparation kitchen, community hall, outside patio, outside basketball court, outdoor stage, playground with picnic tables and BBQ grills. The community pool is open from early Spring to Mid-October and offers private and group swim lessons for all ages, lap swimming, pool parties, and public swimming. 24,000 square foot Pickleweed Park Community Center and Library has a 6,000-volume library, 16-station computer lab, homework center, general classrooms, a community room that accommodates 300, an art room, gymnasium and teen lounge. The facility hosts a variety of meetings and events, as well as social and recreation activities and programs. 11-acre Falkirk Cultural Center, a 19th century country estate listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, consists of an 1888 Queen Anne Victorian mansion and a 1927 greenhouse and gardener's cottage. Falkirk is available for weddings, private functions, fund raisers, business meetings and seminars. Recreational activities and programs for all ages include martial arts/karate, ceramics, conversational Spanish, dance, and drama. Adult classes and programs include yoga, fitness, French, arts & crafts, and a variety of workshops and seminars, such as Internet Safety and Computer Mechanics. Elementary school children can participate in an After-school Enrichment programs, with offers arts & crafts, cooking, dance, drama, and foreign language, and sports classes and activities. Other youth programs include gymnastics, junior tennis, and San Rafael Young Performers Theatre. Special Needs Programs include Outdoor Fun (weekly softball game) and Dance. Preschool Programs are offered at Parkside and Pickleweed Children's Centers for ages 3-5. School-Age Programs, which feature homework assistance, arts and crafts projects, sports, indoor and outdoor games, cooking, music and dramatic play, serve all San Rafael City Schools and Dixie District elementary schools.  The centers follows local school schedules, offering extended hours during minimum days and full days during school holidays. Before school care is available at some school sites, starting as early as 7:00 AM and all programs are open until 6:30 PM. The parks and playgrounds collectively feature children's play areas, lawn areas, tennis & basketball courts, benches and restrooms. Recreation programs in Ross include computers, carpentry, cooking, garden lectures and tours, science, sewing, hiking, running, mountain bike riding, sports (tennis, soccer, all-sports, baseball, softball, basketball classes/leagues), summer camps for children and pre-school at St. Johns Church for ages 3- to 4-year-olds. Facilities include a 1,000 square feet Community Room at Ross School that can accommodate more than 20 people, and Ross Common field, opposite the Ross Post Office, making it convenient for parking and drop-off. The Community Room now has a fully-equipped kitchen for cooking classes, and can also accommodate other planned new classes, such as Adult Workshops, Art, Chess, and Science.
