The New York City Department of Education educates 1,
075,338 students in grades PK-12 in 1200 school buildings across the city. 10
regional districts, each containing about 120 schools, 2, 3 or 4 community
school districts, and all public high schools within its geographical
boundaries, serve the 5 boroughs of the city. Each Region has a Learning Support
Center, which houses the instructional leadership team for the Region, as well
as a full service Parent Support Office. Citywide districts cover Special
Education Programs, Alternative High Schools & Programs, and Charter
