Allendale
Recreation:
Crestwood Park is a 71 acre Municipal facility featuring a lake, 3 beaches, and a barn pavilion (The Red Barn), which is available to Allendale residents or businesses by permit for group activities. The Park is also the site for various athletic programs, including baseball, softball, football, soccer and lacrosse. Ice skating is available during the winter months. Crestwood Lake (and Crestwood Swim Club) is open for membership during the summer, starting on Memorial Day weekend. Activities at the lake and swim club include swimming lessons, the Crestwood Cruisers Swim Team, and tennis.

Alpine Recreation
Alpine has no municipally-organized recreation. The New Jersey section of Palisades Interstate Park (201-768-1360) is located in Alpine. The park has facilities for hiking, cycling, boating, fishing, and picnicking. Various special events are held throughout the year. The park contains Greenbrook Sanctuary, a special use nature preserve maintained by the Palisades Nature Association. 5 scenic lookouts are located throughout the park, including 2 in Alpine (Women's Federation Monument, State Line Lookout).

Memorial and Hickory Parks offer a free recreation summer program for children with AM & PM sessions featuring activities such as field trips to the bowling alley, skating rink, zoo, and seashore, as well as tennis lessons. A separate summer camp program for children of working parents is held at Memorial Park Pavilion (201-384-0352). The pavilion may be reserved for group outings.

The Closter Recreation Commission sponsors activities year round. Baseball, softball and T-Ball programs are held in the spring, along with a tennis program. A free Summer Recreation Program is offered for elementary and middle school age children, featuring individual/group games, arts and crafts, and special events such as a magic show, a petting zoo and pony rides. Summer baseball and softball All Star Traveling teams play in various leagues. During the fall soccer, football, cheerleading, tennis and roller hockey programs are available. Winter sports programs focus on basketball, indoor soccer, roller hockey, and wrestling. Adult Recreation programs consist of men's basketball, softball (men's and women's) and coed volleyball. Recreational facilities in Closter include Memorial, Mollicone, Schauble, and Ruckman Parks. Facilities at the parks include ball fields, playgrounds, a band shell and snack stand open during sports events (Memorial Park), Girl Scout hut (Mollicone Park), basketball & tennis courts, and picnic tables. Seasonal special events at the parks include an Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Field, a fishing contest at Ruckman Pond in April, Labor Day weekend festivities, and a Halloween parade. Closter also has a Performing Arts program, which provides arts performances and other activities to encourage appreciation of the arts.

Fairlawn's recreational facilities include 12 parks, all but one of which features playground equipment. Other facilities at the parks include tennis courts & softball/baseball fields, some of which are lighted, and basketball courts. 3 parks feature walkways. Berdan Grove Park offers a handball court. Supervised areas during the summer include the camps located in Memorial Park, the Center Recreation Playground on Romaine St., and the 2 swimming pools (1 in Memorial Park, the other on Harristown Rd). Memorial Park also features street hockey courts, a roller hockey court for inline skating, an ice rink for ice skating (when weather permits), and picnic facilities. Warren Point Annex at the Center Recreation Building offers soccer fields and Dobrow Sports Complex has a football field (both seasonal). Memorial Pool has a sand bottom, is 300 feet across and features a kiddie swimming area, slides, a raft and areas of depth from 0 to 14 feet. The facility also includes a bath house with restrooms and first aid, a non-smoking area, a small snack stand and restroom area, 2 picnic grove areas and a large concession stand with picnic tables. Pool memberships are available, along with swimming lessons for all ages and ability levels. A community swim league meets at the pool. Walsh Pool is on Harristown Road next to the Dobrow Sports Complex and features first aid rooms and new bathrooms inside the All-Sports building, a new multi-purpose playground, 2 small fountains for children to play in at the low water area, and family picnic spots. Clubs meeting in Fair Lawn facilities include Radio Club, Bridge Club, Computer Club, Hunting & Fishing Club, and Calorie Counters Club.

Fort Lee recreational programs are focused mainly at the William T. Birch Park/Recreation Center, which features a playground with a handicapped accessible play structure, slides, swings, and merry-go-round, wading pools, ball fields, 8 tennis courts, 6 basketball courts (lit from 4/1-11/30), handball court, picnic benches, stage, tables, bathrooms and outdoor water fountain. The Youth Center (2265 Lemoine Ave, 201-592-3755), is open to all borough residents ages 8-17 ($1.00 annual registration fee), and features a gym, pool tables, ping pong table, and various board and table games. Fort Lee offers 5 parks, whose facilities include playgrounds, sports fields (soccer, softball, baseball), basketball, tennis, handball, shuffleboard/bocce courts, wading pools, picnic tables, park benches, and water fountains. Whitey Lang Park features a roller hockey rink and a clubhouse with bathroom facilities for the summer camp program (and functions by permit during the summer/early fall). Constitution Park has an All Veterans Monument for Memorial Day & Veterans’ Day services. Monument Park features a Revolutionary War Monument, houses the Fort Lee Museum at the Judge Moore House, and hosts concerts during the summer.

The Franklin Lakes Recreation Department offers programs for all ages. Sports programs for children include Soft Soccer for Squirts (ages 3-6), baseball and softball. A Rutger's S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (required coaching certification class for volunteer youth sports coaches) is offered prior to the summer sports season. Adult classes/activities include fitness, yoga and aerobics, held at the fitness center inside the Recreation Center, 1 Vichiconti Way, and Fall Walking Club (meets on selected weekday mornings). Facilities at the fitness center include rowing machines, treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, and free weights for strength training. The fitness center is open Mon-Sat, 7:00 AM-9:00 PM (except 8:00-2:00 on Sat). Membership is available to Franklin Lake residents and/or employees of Franklin Lake businesses and organizations. Senior Citizen programs include drawing and water color painting for beginners. Children ages 3-8 with a disability can participate in NEW- FLOW (Franklin Lakes/Oakland/Wyckoff) Special Needs Achievers Bowling Program, which meets. at Holiday Bowl in Oakland, and introduces bowlers to Special Olympics Training.

Recreational facilities in Garfield include Twentieth Century Park, the site of many of Garfield's recreation programs. The park
features a long walking path, four baseball fields, children’s play area, a lighted football/soccer field, and bocce courts. Garfield has 3 other parks: Columbus, which offers a lighted baseball field primarily for the Babe Ruth League, and a monument to Christopher Columbus; Dolphine, whose small ball field is used for T-Ball League and other sporting activities; and Belmont Oval, which features a Little League playing field with batting cages, a second baseball field and a soccer field (this park is slated for major renovations and rehabilitation.) Jewell Street Sprayground contains Garfield’s newest attraction, a children’s mini water park opened in 2004, along with a large playground featuring swings, slides and other activities for young children. Garfield also offers 3 neighborhood playground/parks, Malcolm Avenue, Lizette Street and Hobart Place. The playgrounds all feature play apparatus (jungle gym), one contains a swing set, another offers a large open field. Organized recreational activities focus on sports (basketball, baseball, softball, football, cheerleading, and flag football).

Glen Rock recreation facilities include the Faber Field Complex on Doremus Ave., which features 4 athletic fields; Wilde Memorial Park on Maple Ave., which offers 2 baseball/softball fields, 6 tennis courts, a basketball court, a wooded picnic grove area, a children's playground, a roller hockey rink, and 2 bocci courts; Main Street Field at Main St. & Robinson, which consists of 1 small baseball diamond; Sycamore Field on Sycamore Terrace, which consists of 1 small baseball/softball field. Town facilities are supplemented by school district owned facilities, including outdoor basketball courts, baseball, softball and soccer fields, playgrounds, and gyms. In addition, Glen Rock Middle/High School features a track and station exercise area, a wrestling room, and a weight room. The Municipal Pool complex (390 Doremus Ave) offers a swimming pool, a fifty meter adult pool, a family pool for youngsters with a summer playground, a concession stand, and a children's playground. Adjacent to the pool and sports complex is the Glen Rock Arboretum, a wetland forest with perennial, shade, azalea and grass gardens, lawns, an area with Kousa dogwood trees, a spring fed pond stocked annually with fish and equipped with fountain and aerators, and a bird sanctuary.

Hackensack Recreation
The Hackensack Recreation Department provides a variety of programs for all ages, as well as special events such as magic shows, parties, and other recreational activities. Sports programs include tennis for ages 6 & up, and Junior Sports including basketball and wrestling. Other activities and classes include martial arts, aerobics, bowling, and open gym. Kids Club is open to children in grades 2-8. A "Just for Two" class offers age-appropriate activities for toddlers/preschoolers ages 1 1/2-3 1/2. Recreational facilities include Foschini Park, which features athletic fields, and 4 other parks (Baldwin, Nellie K. Parker, Columbus & Staib). Each park hosts a summer playground program, from 9:00-3:30 weekdays, and Foschini Park offers an extended day program (8:00-5:30). Other summer programs include sports camp (at Hackensack High School) and theater arts (at the Hackensack Recreation & Cultural Arts Center, 201-487-5518). The Hackensack Recreation & Cultural Arts Center is also the location for a 6 week "Hip Hop" Dance class meeting in November & December.

Recreational activities in Ridgefield Park include football, cheerleading, baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, ponytail softball and a summer youth program. Recreational facilities in Ridgefield Park include the Ridgefield Park Municipal Pool, which features a pool, refreshment stand, and parking area, offers swimming lessons and hosts a swim team. Other facilities include 10 parks, and 3 athletic fields. The parks collectively feature picnic areas, play areas, tennis courts (lighted), passive recreation areas, batting cage, football/baseball/softball fields, beach volleyball court, basketball court, skating rink, gardens & flower beds, and a waterside gazebo. The athletic fields collectively offer baseball, softball, and soccer fields, as well as tennis, handball & basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a play area and a parking area (Hobart Street Field). The Ridgefield Park Junior Football Association sponsors football & cheerleading, Ridgefield Park Baseball Organization sponsors baseball, and Ridgefield Park Softball and Soccer Associations sponsor programs in their respective sports.

Recreational facilities in Rutherford include Memorial Field (Darwin Ave). which features 8 baseball/softball diamonds (4 lighted), 4 shuffleboard courts, 2 half basketball courts, 5 tennis courts, picnic area, Tryon Field (lighted track, football/soccer stadium), 3 playgrounds: Kid’s Spot, Picnic Area and Katie's Corner. Tryon Field/Stadium hosts the Felician College Men's and Women's Soccer Program, Rutherford High School Football, Soccer and Track Programs, the Rutherford Jr. Football Program and the Rutherford Recreation Soccer and Track & Field Program. Tamblyn Field (Woodland Ave) offers tennis & basketball courts, a football/soccer field, 2 baseball/ softball diamonds, a playground, a picnic area and a civic center, which hosts all of the children's programs. Wall Field (Highland Cross) features a basketball court, baseball field, soccer field, and playground. Recreational program include youth sports (basketball, soccer, indoor soccer, wrestling, volleyball, girls softball, track & field, tennis, in-line hockey) and adult sports (Men's/Women's Softball, Women's Volleyball). Other classes for children include dance, music, chess, arts & crafts, cooking, yoga, bowling, and gymnastics. Adult classes & programs include fitness (aerobics, awesome abs, pilates on the ball, functional fitness for your total body health, walking club, walkin' & strollin'), belly dancing, yoga, tennis, open gym, tai chi chuan*, upga*, yamuna body rolling*.*Yoga Bums Studio. The Exceptional Individuals Program offers weekly activities such as bowling, arts & crafts, movies, and outings/parties. The Rutherford Recreation Department Day Camp (Midget-Preschool, Junior & Senior Camps), which meets in Memorial Park, is offered for children ages 4-13. A number of classes, events, and activities are offered for senior citizens, and special events throughout the year are organized for all ages.

The Teaneck Recreation Department provides a variety of programs for all ages. Classes for children include toddlekins, kindergym, creative movement, creative dance, master ballet, tap, hop-hop, drama, bowling, tennis, ice skating, swimming, golf, karate, fencing, arts & crafts, scrap booking and pottery. Open gym basketball is offered for students on certain school closing days. Adult classes include open gym basketball & volleyball, golf, tennis, cardio-blast, pilates, pottery and scrap booking. The department also operates a Pre-School program (ages 3-4) and an After School Child Care program (Grades K-7) during the school year.

Tenafly Recreation offers a variety of programs, including arts & crafts, dance, tumbling, gymnastics, cooking, music, chess, tae kwon do, as well as seasonal special events and trips/excursions. Youth sports programs include football, wrestling, girl's softball, junior tennis, and travel basketball. Seasonal sports clinics are offered for grades K-2 along with Start Smart, an early childhood (preschool) sports development program. Adult programs include softball (men's & coed), yoga, t'ai chi ch'uan, aerobics, mother's morning out, bridge, tennis, The commission also offers a six week summer day camp & fun camp for preschoolers. Recreational facilities include a newly built skate park, open to skateboard and in-line skating enthusiasts of all ages, tennis courts and athletic fields.

Annual and/or seasonal special events/activities include Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Ragamuffin Parade, "Home for the Holidays", Summer Concert Series, Summer Movies in the Park Series, Senior Fellowship Club, and Teen Night Program. The department coordinates with local sport organizations (Westwood Baseball, Cheerleading, Roller Hockey and Softball Associations, Washington Township Soccer Association, Wolverines Jr. Football, Flag Football) and disseminates information about their programs. Recreational facilities in Woodcliff Lake include Old Mill Park, just west of the intersection of Woodcliff Ave & Werimus Rd., the sports fields just south of Old Mill Park, available for baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer, and tennis courts. The borough also operates a summer day camp program for children.

Recreational sports programs in Wood-Ridge include Little League & Babe Ruth baseball, basketball, junior football, junior football cheerleaders, girl's softball, soccer, indoor soccer, track & field, twirling and wrestling. Recreational facilities include the Civic Center, Senior Center, athletic fields, tennis & basketball courts, Valley Blvd. tot park/playground, William Kour Park & Playground, Wood-Ridge Sports Complex and facilities at Doyle School & Wood-Ridge High School.
