Southwinds Public Golf Course features an 18-hole, regulation course, Driving range, Practice putting green and chipping area, snack & restroom facilities, and a Pro shop (561-483-1305). Red Reef Executive Golf Course features a 9 hole, 1357 yard course and offers Advance Tee Times, Rest Rooms on Course, Pull Cart Rental, Outings and Leagues, Vending Machines, Electric Golf Cart Rental, Practice Putting, and Green Club Rental. 210 acre Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course features an 18-hole, 6514 yard, par 72 Championship course and a 9-hole, 1877 yard, par 30 Executive Course, Advance Tee Times, Electric Golf Cart Rental, Pull Cart Rental, Yardage Guides, Fairway Yardage Markers, Color Coded Pin Placements, Golf Pro Shop, Club Rental, Golf Lessons, Snack Bar - Food- Soda – Beer, Air Condition Club House, Rest Rooms on Course, Driving Range, Practice Putting Green, and Chipping Green. Golf Outings, Tournaments and Leagues are welcome during the off-season months of April through November and a Handicap Service is available. Staff includes PGA Professionals (561-483-6278) who offer private or group instruction for adults, as well as a Junior Program for children and teens. 2 acre Dog Park, Broken Sound Blvd, open from 7:30 AM – Sunset daily (except for Noon to dusk on Wed), allows dogs off-leash and features Benches, Water Fountains, Wash Stations, Handicap Access, Trash Cans, and Doggie Bags for Waste (6 stations throughout the park). The fenced park has separate areas for large dogs (over 50 pounds), medium dogs (20-50 pounds), and small dogs (under 20 pounds). No smoking is allowed and no restrooms are provided. 15 acres Gumbo Limbo Nature Center (Coop venture of City of Boca Raton, Palm Beach County School District, Florida Atlantic University & Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Inc.), 1801 N. Ocean Blvd, 561-338-1473, is open from 9 AM-4 PM M- Sat, and Noon-4 PM Sun. The Environmental Complex, inside 67 acre Red Reef Park, offers marine and coastal environmental education through classes, workshops, field trips and research and features a butterfly garden, observation tower, winding boardwalk through coastal hammock, Chiki hut, saltwater tanks with sea turtles, fish, sharks and rays, sea turtle garden with 7 giant turtles. Programs for public and private schools, designed to meet the Sunshine State Standards Requirement in science education, include floating and land-based classrooms, such as a newly constructed outdoor learning center Chiki hut alongside the Intracoastal. Nature programs for all ages include Field Trips, Day Trips, Overnight Trips, Offsite Trips, Arts/Crafts, Lecture Series, and Camps. Gumbo Limbo Nature Center offers the Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP, an adult education extension program developed by the University of Florida (UF) and provided by participating organizations, which includes courses in 3 subject areas – Freshwater Wetlands, Coastal Systems, and Upland Habitats that include classroom learning, field trips, and practical experience in interpretation. The Boca Raton Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program conduct nesting activity research on 5 miles of Boca Raton's beaches from March to October and involve faculty from Florida Atlantic University's Department of Biological Sciences with varying research interests in sharks, seagrasses, and sea turtles. Red Reef Park, 1400 N. State Rd A1A, 561-393-7974, open 8 AM-10 PM daily, also allows surf fishing (except in swimming areas during the hours of 9 AM-5 PM), and Snorkeling in the south end of the park. 55 acre Patch Reef Park, 2000 Yamato Rd, is jointly maintained and operated by the City of Boca Raton & the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District (GBRB&PD). The park, open from 8 AM-11 PM M-Sat, 8 AM-6 PM Sun (fall), and 8 AM-8 PM Sun (spring), features a Community Center, softball and baseball fields, tennis center, soccer/football fields, fitness trail, a children's playground, basketball courts, and picnic pavilions with charcoal BBQ grills, tables and restrooms (3 pavilions have lights that can be used, upon request, for nighttime events). Picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, pavilions are available for rental (561-367-7035). The Tennis Center features 16 hard courts and 1 pro court, a hitting wall, a pro shop, locker rooms and a concession area. 45 acre Rutherford Community Center in Rutherford Park, 600 NE 24th St, 561-367-7035, is open from 8 AM-10 PM weekdays, and 8 AM-5 PM on weekends. The Community Center offers a variety of classes and activities, provides meeting rooms for local service clubs and civic organizations for community events, and sells beach stickers. Adult Programs include Dance (Belly Dance, Hula, Tahitian Workshop, Line Dancing, Intro to Flamenco Dance, Intermediate Flamenco Dance); Special Interest (Tae Kwon Do, age 10 & up, Duplicate Bridge, Realistic Drawing & Painting, Basics of EBay selling); Self-Help/Fitness (Self-Healing & Personal Empowerment, Past Life Regression, Baby Signs Parent Workshop, Living Simply, Stretching the Mind/Stretching the Body, Becoming a Love & Logic Parent, Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun. Children can participate in Hip Hop Dance/Tumbling (ages 5-9), Tumble Bears (ages 3-5), Kinderdance (ages 2-5), Realistic Art (ages 7-12), Tae Kwon Do (ages 6-9), Tap & Ballet (ages 3 1/2-8), Mommy & Me (ages 1 1/2-3 1/2), Little Yogis (ages 3-5), Kindermusik (ages 1-4), Playball (ages 3-5), and Zumba Fitness (ages 5-12). A privately operated concession area in the park is open after 5 PM and whenever park activity/events warrant its opening. Staff at Rutherford Park & Community Center also includes a Recreation Center Supervisor (561-367-7035, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM), an Athletic Supervisor (561-367-7039 1:30-10:00 PM), a Tennis Center Manager (561-367-7039 8:00 AM-5:00 PM), a Park Maintenance Supervisor (561-367-7074 7:00 AM–3:30 PM), and a Park Ranger (561-393-7815 8:00 AM–Park closing). 14.3 acre Swim & Racquet Center, 21626 St. Andrews Blvd, 561-367-7095, is open from 7:30 AM-10 PM M-F, 7:30 AM-6:00 PM Sat, and7:30 AM-5:00 PM Sun; and features 12 Lighted Courts, 26 Clay Courts, Showers (available during pool hours), Pro Shop, and Ball Machine. The club offers Leagues, Singles Ladder, After School Junior Programs, Adult Clinics, and Junior Winter Holiday Camp. Annual Permits can be purchased; permit holders can use a lottery reservation slip to request a court up to one month in advance, with courts reserved 2 days in advance. Non Permit Holders may reserve courts 2 days in advance by calling after 1:00 PM and Walk-ins are welcome on a "court available" basis. 94 acre Spanish River Park, 3001 N. State Rd A1A, 561-393-7815, open from 8 AM-Sunset daily, offers group picnic areas (picnic shelters) on a reservation basis (561-393-7815) and overnight camping by organized youth groups at a pre-selected site. Swimming is allowed in life-guarded beach and ocean areas. Saltwater fishing from the shoreline is allowed, as well as surf fishing (except in swimming areas during swim hours-9 AM-5 PM). 24.5 acre South Beach, 400 N. State Rd A1A, is open daily from 8 AM-Sunset, and allows swimming in 3 designated locations within the park and surf fishing (except in swimming areas during swim hours-9 AM-5 PM). 132-acre Sugar Sand Park, 300 S. Military, 561-347-3900, developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District and operated by the City of Boca Raton, is open daily from 8 AM-11 PM. The park houses the Willow Theatre, a Carousel, a Field House and the Children's Science Explorium. Children's Science Explorium offers interactive exhibits, programs, and camps (ages 5-12). The After School Science Series includes Body Science, Spooky Science, Native American Science, and Seasonal Science. Weekend Programs include Bridge Building Contest (ages 5-8), Egg Drop Challenge (ages 9-12), Magical Science Series (ages 4-7), Toy Science Series (ages 5-10), Eyes to the Skies (Recommended for ages 8+, all children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian), Kids Night In…Parents Night Out (grades 1-5) Community Center Classes and Programs include he Actors Workshop, SMASH! The Mosaics (age 16 & up), Papier Mache (age 12 & up), Writing Children's Books, Thursday Movie Classics, all for adults; and, for children/teens, Cartooning, Drawing & Coloring (ages 7-15), Children's Performance Workshop (ages 6-15), and Arts & Crafts for Beginners (ages 8-16). Children's Science Explorium also features the Science Playground, a tri–level hands–on experience for all ages, with interactive components demonstrating a variety of scientific principles. The Field House (gym), is at the west end of the park between the Inline Roller Hockey rink and the Community Center, is open from 8 AM–10:30 PM M-Sat &10 AM-5 Sun. The Field House hosts sports, tournaments and special events throughout the year, offers regular classes and activities for all ages, and is open to the public at various times each week for pick-up basketball or volleyball. Inline Skate Hockey Rink, on the west end of the park next to the park entrance and field house, is a dual facility with 3 full basketball courts open from 8 AM–10 PM M-Sat and 8 AM–park closing on Sun (6 PM or 8 PM, depending on the time of year). The rink is open to the public for open inline skating, hockey, or basketball when not reserved. Sugar Sand Park's sports fields (including lighted batting cages) host Boca Raton Youth Baseball, Boca Raton Youth Athletic Association, travel baseball and several tournaments (561-393-7826 for field/batting cage reservations). The Carousel, on a large brick patio next to the science playground and the Children's Science Explorium, is open weekdays from 10 AM-7 PM, and Weekends & Holidays from 10 AM-5 PM, at a cost (per ride) of $1 per person. Sugar Sand Park houses two nature trails; the Sand Pine nature trail near the Science Playground, which goes through parts of the endangered Florida scrub, and Slash Pine nature trail behind the Community Center, which goes through scrubby pine flatwoods. The staff is certified through American Red Cross in Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, Water Safety Instruction (WSI), and Administering Emergency Oxygen (O2) and offers learn to swim lessons for ages 6 months through adult, as well as the Boca Masters Swimming program. The pool is closed for swimming to the public during recreational home swim meets. American Red Cross staff certified in Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, Water Safety Instruction (WSI), and Administering Emergency Oxygen (O2) offers swim lessons for ages 2 through adult. Delray Oaks has some of the best remaining examples of prairie and xeric hammock ecosystems in Palm Beach County, as well as a small wetland, areas of mesic flat woods, and a tree canopy with many live oak trees, sabal palms, and an under-story of wild coffee, beauty berry and saw palmetto.
