The Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department operates 150+ recreation centers and 350+ parks (including 5 Regional Parks) throughout the Los Angeles area. Its facilities throughout the city include nearly 16,000 acres of park land, 15 swimming pools, 13 golf courses, 92 miles of hiking trails, and hundreds of basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, playgrounds, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, indoor and outdoor gyms, and picnic areas. School-aged childcare is offered at park district facilities throughout the area, along with preschool programs for children ages 3-5.

Regional Parks:

Elysian Park. Near the Civic Center. Contains picnic areas, hiking trails, Angels Point and the Memorial Grove Arboretum.

Ernest E. Debs Regional Park. 4235 Monterey Rd., 213-847-3989. Features a landscaped picnic areas, natural wilderness including hiking trails, bird sanctuary, reservoir, and scenic views of the L.A. Basin and parks of Glendale.

Hansen Dam Recreation Area. 11770 Foothill Blvd., 818-756-8190. Features an 18-hole, par 72 golf course with food service, golf professional clubhouse and free parking (off Glenoaks Boulevard in the recreational area), as well as picnic areas and a lake, children's play area, a softball field, barbecue facilities, and outdoor amphitheater. Parking is available.

Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park. 25820 Vermont Ave., 310-548-7515. Features a reflecting lake and offers overnight camping (for groups only), fishing and nature hikes, picnic area with BBQ pits, 9-acre golf course, and children's play area.

Sepulveda Dam Recreational Area. 17017 Burbank Blvd. in Encino. Features three 18-hole golf courses, and 8-acre major sports field with baseball diamonds, lighted tennis courts, an outdoor gym with basketball, volleyball, and handball courts, children's play areas, parking facilities, a 20-acre picnic area, cricket field, archery range, garden center, and bicycle and roller skating paths.

Griffith Park. Open from 6 AM-10 PM daily. Features over 4,000 acres of land, bridle (equestrian) trails, hiking paths, jogging paths, mountain roads, picnic areas, golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pool, soccer fields, and playgrounds. Sherman Oaks/Castle Park. 4989 Sepulveda Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, 818-756-9459. Open from 10 AM-11 PM Sun.-Thurs., till Midnight on Fri. & Sat. Offers miniature golf, batting cages, an arcade, and party facilities (charges vary according to activity).

Orcutt Ranch. 818-346-7449. Open to public from 8 AM-5 PM daily. Features manicured gardens and towering oak trees. Available for rental from 8 AM-10 PM on the weekends and 4 PM-10 PM M-F.

Los Angeles Zoo 5333 Zoo Drive, 323-644-6400

The Los Angeles Zoo is open from 10 AM to 5 PM daily, and to 6 PM on Sat. & Sun. during July & August. Admission rates are $3.25 for children ages 2-12, $8.25 for adults, and $5.25 for senior citizens. Admission is free for members of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) or the American Zoo & Aquarium Association. Group discounts are available, as are employee discounts for companies of 50 or more. Educational Programs offered by the zoo include docent- and self-guided tours, classes for preschoolers, youth, and scout groups, as well as adult workshops, "zoo on the road" programs for schoolchildren, adults, and community groups, and curriculum materials for teachers.

San Bernardino Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department offers a variety of classes and programs for children and adults. Facilities include 5 community centers throughout the city, each with various facilities including swimming pool, playground, baseball diamond, football field, basketball & tennis courts, gyms, meeting rooms, and kitchen (different centers have different facilities). Rental of facilities is available at the centers.

The City of Ontario Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of classes, programs, facilities, and special events for all ages. Many of the classes and programs are held at Armstrong Community Center. Aquatics classes and programs meet at Westwind Pool, inside Westwind Park, 2425 Riverside Dr. Creekside Golf Course, 3151 Riverside Dr., 909-947-1981, offers facilities and classes for golfers of all ability levels. Clubs and special events are offered for people with developmental challenges, ages 3 & up, meeting at the Senior Center, 909-395-2021 (except for "Taz" League Bowling, which meets at Brunswick Bowl). Four community centers and five neighborhood parks, a baseball diamond, and a bandstand, also provide recreational opportunities for the community. Ice Skating classes and events are held at the Ontario Ice Skating Center, 1125 W. Holt Blvd., 909-986-0793, and at Skate Express, 12356 Central Ave. in Chino, 909-465-1383. Some dance classes are held at the Dance Shop Performing Arts Center, 311 W. Emporia St., 909-988-9350. Precision Gymnastics in Rancho Cucamonga, 9518 9th St., Suite B, 909-483-6161, offers gymnastics instruction and facilities. Horse-riding instruction is available at Lucky 7 Stables, 2224 1/2 S. The City of Rancho Cucamonga Community Services Department maintains 23 parks in the city of Rancho Cucamonga. Many classes and programs meet at the RC Sports Center, 9059 San Bernardino Rd., 909-477-2785, whose facilities include a gym with 3 courts for basketball, soccer or volleyball, 5 racquetball courts, an exercise room, and a teen center. The RC Senior Center, 9791 Arrow Route, 909-477-2780, has a full kitchen and facilities for meeting and programs large and small. Swimming classes are offered during the summer at Lions Center East, 9191 Baseline Rd, 909-477-2760, and at nearby Alta Loma High School, 8880 Baseline Rd, 909-948-2948, and Etiwanda High School, 13500 Victoria Ave., 909-888-3438.Virtually all area parks feature a children's playground, picnic facilities (including barbecues), restrooms, athletic fields, and basketball courts. Some have picnic shelters, and a few have tennis courts and/or a softball/baseball field. Some parks offer an exercise course and/or jogging trail. Most parks have parking, either on-site or at an adjacent school.

City of Fontana Parks & Recreation & Community Services Department, 9460 Sierra Ave., 909-428-8360

The City of Fontana Parks & Recreation facilities include the Civic Auditorium, 3 Community Centers, a Senior Center, a Museum & Nature Center, and a Fitness Center. A variety of classes and programs, including aquatics & swim lessons, is offered for all ages. Nearly 3 dozen parks offer recreational facilities including playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic tables & shelters, barbecues, baseball fields, soccer fields, racquetball courts, and restrooms. An after-school program is available for grades K-5 during the school year (transportation available from Tokay and Hemlock schools), and summer camps are offered every weekday afternoon in the summer.

 

 

City of Corona Parks & Community Services, 815 W. 6th St., 951-736-2241

The City of Corona Parks & Community Services Department maintains over 30 parks in the community. Almost all parks have lighting for night-time activities, most have play equipment for children and about 2/3 of the parks have restrooms. Other facilities at the parks include tennis, volleyball & basketball courts, picnic tables & barbecues, jogging trails, soccer and ball fields. Civic Center Gym has fitness facilities and a swimming pool. Several of the parks have indoor recreation facilities, where a variety of classes and programs for all ages are held. An after-school Kids Club program meets at public grade schools in the area and at River Road park, and offers recreational activities, special events and field trips. A before- & after-school child care program (Kids Camp) is also available, and meets at the City Park Community Center, 475 E. Grand Blvd, 909-736-2241 or 2368 (this is a licensed child care facility).

 

 

City of Rialto Recreation & Community Services 214 N Palm Ave., 909-421-4949

The City of Rialto's Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of classes for all ages. Many of the classes and programs meet at the Rialto Community Center, 214 N Palm Ave., or Rialto Activity Center in Rialto City Park.  Activities for seniors are held at the Rialto Senior Center, 1477 S. Riverside Ave., 909-877-9706. The Racquet & Fitness Center, 1243 S. Riverside Ave., 909-820-2677, offers fitness, yoga and aerobics classes. Tom Sawyer Swimming Pool, 152 E. San Bernardino Ave., 909-820-2633, is the site for aquatic activities ranging from lessons to lap & recreational swim. An AM preschool is offered 2 or 3 mornings per week (Tiny Tots), as well as a licensed Child Care program (Kidstuff Child Care, 909-820-2639, ext. 3214). Bowling classes & leagues meet at Brunswick Foothill Lanes.

The City of Chino offers a wide variety of recreation programming for all ages, and maintains 10 parks: Ayala Park, 14225 Central Ave., Central Park, 13219 Central Ave., Cypress Trails Park, 6571 Schaefer Ave., Heritage Park, 4250 Chino Ave., Liberty Park, 11860 Telephone Ave., McLeod Park, 12250 Carissa Ave., Monte Vista Park, 13196 Monte Vista Ave., Mountain View Park, 13351 Mountain Ave., Villa Park, 13515 3rd St., and Walnut Park, 4600 Walnut Ave. After-school programs for elementary school children include High Five and SOAR. High Five is held at Howard Cattle and Newman Elementary Schools. This program provides recreation activities, educational enhancement and homework assistance, and is a collaboration between the CVUSD and the City of Chino. Students on a Rise (SOAR) designs programs to create an enthusiasm for learning and increased student success in the areas of reading, writing, verbal, mathematics, social science, science and the arts. SOAR is a collaboration between the CVUSD, City of Chino and the Chino Valley YMCA. SOAR locations: Dickson Elementary, 3930 Pamela Dr., Marshall Elementary, 12045 Telephone Ave., El Rancho Elementary, 5862 "C" St., Gird Elementary, 4980 Riverside Dr., Walnut Avenue Elementary, 5550 Walnut Ave. Recreation and Human Services programs are also offered through Neighborhood Activity Center (N.A.C.), 5201 “D” St., 909-590-5575, and include Youth Boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling, Basketball, and Open Gym. Most N.A.C. programs are free or low-cost.

 

 

Upland Parks and Recreation: 460 N. Euclid Ave, 909-931-4280

The Recreation Division provides a wide variety of programs, including sports and aquatics (at Upland High School Swimming Pool, 565 W 11th St.), special events, and trips. The Division provides free recreation programs for underprivileged youth through Community Development Block Grant funding. Other Programs are provided as a result of collaboration efforts with service organizations, The Partnership for Youth Development and the Upland School District. The division serves the community's senior citizens through activities offered at the Gibson Senior Center (250 N 3rd. Ave., 909-981-4501). The division maintains a number of parks, which generally have play and picnic areas/tables and restrooms. Some have soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and basketball courts. Some of the soccer and ball fields are lighted. Baldy View Dog Park (11th St. between Mountain Ave. & San Antonio Ave.) caters to pets and their owners, with a 5-acre fenced-in area for dogs to run (and a smaller fenced-in area for small or timid dogs). Magnolia Park (15th St. between San Antonio Ave. & Euclid Ave., 909-931-4280) features a Recreation Center Facility. Memorial Park (Foothill Blvd. between Hospital Way & Grove Ave., 909-982-6402) features a Bandshell, YMCA Play Area, Tiny Tots Community Building (site of preschool classes) and Rose Garden.

 

 

Victorville Parks & Recreation Hook Community Center, 14973 Joshua St., 760-245-5551

The Victorville Community Services Department plans and conducts a wide range of recreational programs and activities as well as designing, maintaining and repairing all City owned buildings and facilities.  Recreation facilities include 14 parks, two golf courses (Greentree & Westwinds), two swimming pools and four community centers. Hook Community Center, the Recreation Department headquarters, features an 8,000 square foot gymnasium with stage, an exercise room, two meeting rooms and a Tiny Tots room. Victorville Activity Center, 15075 Hesperia Rd., contains both a large and small auditorium, and is home to the Meals on Wheels program. Village Recreation Center, in Village Park, 15720 Eto Camino is a 731 square feet, carpeted room with full kitchen facilities, suitable for medium size meetings. Tables and chairs are also available. Westwinds Sports Center, 18241 George Blvd., 760-246-1239 (grounds of the Southern California Logistics Airport) features a full court Gym, an activity room, two meeting rooms, exercise room, and five Racquetball courts. Nearby Westwinds Activity Center, 18040 George Blvd., contains a gym and activity room. The parks contain a variety of amenities, including restrooms, playgrounds, ballfields (some are lit), basketball courts, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, sports fields, horseshoe pits, open grass areas, picnic tables, and barbecue pits. Pebble Beach Park, 16300 Pebble Beach Dr., 760-245-6567, has a Recreation Center with indoor racquetball courts and a community swimming pool. This site hosts Preschool & Kids Club programs, as well as Youth Sports such as T-ball & Flag Football.

 

 

Hesperia Parks & Recreation Dept P.O. Box 401055, 760-244-5488

Hesperia Parks & Recreation Dept offers a variety of classes and programs for all ages. Kids Kamp provides organized indoor and outdoor recreational activities for children ages 5-12, and meets at Lime Street Park Community Center, 16292 Lime St., during school holiday periods. The After School Activities Program (A.S.A.P.), sponsored jointly by the Park Dept and Hesperia Unified School District, meets at Carmel, Cottonwood, Eucalyptus, Hollyvale, Joshua Circle, Juniper, Kingston, Lime Street, Maple, Mesa Grande, Mesquite Trails and Topaz Elementary Schools. A.S.A.P. provides organized indoor and outdoor recreational activities as well as homework assistance, computer skills, and when needed, behavior counseling & guidance. Tiny Tots program holds monthly preschool sessions (AM or PM, MW or TTH) at Park Center Program Center, 9495 "I" Ave., or Timberlane Activity Center, 9480 Timberlane Ave. Community building facilities include Novack Community Center & Gym, 13558 Palm St., Bakker Community Center, 9333 "E" Ave., Power Play Center (Roller Rink), 10770 "I" Ave., Epicentre, 17508 Hercules St. (Gym & Computer Room),  Swisher Museum/Nature Center, 7500 Arrowhead Lake Rd., and Harrison Exhibit Center, 16367 Main St. Area parks feature a variety of facilities, including restrooms, picnic areas, playgrounds, ballfields (both lit and unlit), basketball courts, gym (Palm Street Park), campground & fishing (Hesperia Lake Park), tennis courts, rodeo arena, horseshoe pits, and swimming pool (Lime Street Park). Many of the facilities are handicapped accessible.

 

 

Parks and Recreation: Redlands Police Department Community Services Division Recreation, Housing & Seniors Services 35 Cajon St., 909-798-7572

Redlands Police Department, through its community services division, oversees recreation, housing and senior services programs. A wide variety of classes, including fitness, sports, dance and arts/crafts are offered for all ages. Many programs are held at the Redlands Community Center 111 West Lugonia 909-798-7547, which houses a Senior Center, 909-798-7579, and features Indoor Racquetball Courts, Outdoor Tennis Courts, Full Court Gymnasium, Billiard & Game Room, Multi-Purpose Dance Room, Community Meeting Rooms and Computer Lab. The Senior Center, open to adults 50 years of age and older, also features a video lending library, a small library with books & puzzles, and the resources of the San Bernardino County Department of Aging and Adult Services Senior Information and Assistance Program (909-793-7707.) The center also plans special events and excursions and provides a hot lunch for seniors age 60 or more ($2.50 donation suggested, younger people can purchase the lunch for $4.00). The Joslyn Senior Center, 21 Grant St., 909-798-7550, also offers a variety of social, instructional, health and recreational services to Redlands residents 50 years of age and older. For the other end of the age spectrum, Youth Sports Leagues, through the Redlands Recreation Bureau, offer instruction in the basics of such sports as soccer and baseball. The bureau also organizes adult sports league competition. Kids World, an after-school program for grades K-6, meets from 3-6 PM and offers a snack, homework assistance, recreation in facilities including gym and racquetball courts, computer lab and game room, arts/crafts activities and guest speakers. For middle school students, REC-N-FX, at Clement, Moore & Cope Middle Schools, offers an after school Intramural Sports Program. This program incorporates police offices, who serve as School Resource Officers (SROs).

Colton Community Services Department: Gonzales Community Center 670 Colton Ave., 909-370-6153

Colton Community Services Department offers recreational and social services for residents. The Gonzales Community Center offers a weight room with fitness-training equipment, racquetball court, a preschool (Tiny Tots) for children ages 3-5, and supervised recreational activities such as arts & crafts, sports, board games, tournaments, movies and story telling for children ages 5-12. Hutton Center, 660 Colton Ave., 909-370-6168, focuses on social services referrals, including AFDC, Job Opportunities/Summer Youth /GAIN, Medical & Medicare, Clothes Closet, Senior Chore Grant and Community Services. Luque Center, 292 E "O" St. 909-370-5087, provides recreational and social services to both youths & senior adults. Activities for seniors include nutrition (lunch program), PACE class (exercise for individuals with arthritis), monthly birthday celebration and monthly trips/tours. Teen programs and activities (for ages 12-17) include billiards, movies, and group sports. Teens participate in monthly planning meetings for upcoming events such as dances and movie nights. After-school recreation programs for elementary school-age children include drop-in recreation, homework club, and arts & crafts club. Early childhood programs in the community (subsidized & non-subsidized, registration at Hutton Center, 909-370-6171) include Colton Cares Child Development Center, 575 Carreon Dr., 909-825-7531, Sierra Vista State Preschool, 2300 N Rancho Ave, 909-884-2700, and preschool programs at Cooley Ranch Elementary, 1000 S. Work is progressing on Colton Regional Park, which will be a 150-acre facility along the north and south banks of the Santa Ana River. Apple Valley Park and Recreation Department 14955 Dale Evans Parkway, 760-240-7000

This department provides a variety of recreation, sport, educational and equestrian programs for children, teens, adults and families. Leagues, classes, special events, after school programs, swim lessons, and sports tournaments and leagues are among the recreational opportunities available to residents of Apple Valley. Facilities include the Town Hall Recreation Center, a community center, gymnasium, 13 parks and playgrounds, an equestrian center and ball fields.

 

 

Highland Recreation (Note: City does not have a recreation department as such).

Flanked by the often snowcapped peaks of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains, Highland is close to an array of skiing and other mountain recreational opportunities. Highland has an extensive trails system linking to the Santa Ana River Trail which will one day connect the San Bernardino Mountains to the Orange County coast. The city operates 2 newly-opened parks, one at 29700 Greenspot Rd, and the second at Central Ave. & Hibiscus St.

Yucaipa Recreation: Yucaipa Community Center/Park, 34900 Oak Glen Rd., 909-790-7460

Yucaipa's Community Services Department oversees the City's Recreation Programs, including Sports and Classes for all ages, Special Events, Yucaipa Kid's Club Program, Senior Services, Teen Programs and Aquatics. Classes generally meet at the Yucaipa Community Center, except for swimming instruction, which is held at the Municipal Pool in 7th Street Park. Racquetball and Open Gym times are available. Children/Youth classes include football camp, basketball camp, sports, tumbling, gymnastics, karate, yoga, dance, musical theater, acting/drama, and cheerleading. Adult classes include fitness/aerobics, dance, dog obedience training (7th Street Park), CPR, softball & basketball leagues, and various special interest classes and workshops. Activities at Yucaipa Teen Center (in Wildwood Park) include foosball, air hockey, pool tournaments, ping pong, play station 2, and a TV/VCR. Yucaipa Kid's Club, 909-797-2489 Ext: 241 or 909-790-7460 Ext: 24, is a before- & after-school drop-in program for children in grades *K-7 that offers a variety of activities that include crafts, sports, games and special events. Some sites offer extended hours and the All Day Kid's Club is open from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. (*Kindergartners may only attend during the hours the program is provided for the 1st - 7th grade students). The Senior Services program, 909-797-1177, offers a variety of programs, activities, and services, including health assistance programs, support groups, referral services and leisure activities. Recreational facilities include 5 parks, an Equestrian Arena (between Avenue G & California St.), and Bryant Glen Sports Complex, 11092 Sunnyside Dr. The Equestrian Arena's facilities include a snack bar, storage, restrooms, an announcer’s booth, main arena, warm-up arena, concrete bleachers, parking lot, landscaping and tiny-tot playground. Bryant Glen Sports Complex features four multi-purpose playing fields (two with night lighting), restrooms, a concession stand and a playground area. Amenities and features at the other parks include playgrounds, picnic areas and equipment (tables, benches, barbecues), lighted and unlighted ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, sand volleyball court, grassy areas & trees, parking lots, and restrooms. 7th Street Park, corner of Avenue "E" and 7th Street, also features roller blade hockey rinks, swimming pool, bath house, a weight room, the City’s Teen Center facility, a gazebo, snack bars, an announcer’s booth and the City’s recreation building. Wildwood Park, Mesa Grande Dr. at Wildwood Canyon Rd., includes a concrete stage and equestrian staging area. Yucaipa Community Park features an ampitheater.

 

 

Montclair Parks & Recreation: Human Services Division 5111 Benito St., 909-625-9460

The Montclair Human Services Division offers a variety of recreation classes and programs for all ages, including Youth & Adult Sports, Arts & Crafts, Martial Arts (Karate/Aikido), Fitness (including Yoga/Pilates), Dance, and specialty classes such as Dog Obedience and Amateur Radio License and workshops such as Financial Investment. Many of the classes and programs are held at the Community Center, Recreation Facility, and Civic Center Tennis Courts, all located at 5111 Benito St. Alma Hofman Park, nearby at 5201 Benito St., is home to the new Montclair Skate Park. Nine other parks provide recreational opportunities in neighborhoods across the community. The Racquetball/Weight Room Complex is located in the Recreation Facility and consists of three racquetball courts, a weight room, and men's and women's shower facilities with saunas, and is open to adults and youth age 14 or older (younger children must be accompanied by adult on the premises). Baldy View Gymnastics, 8175 Monte Vista Ave. in Upland, is the site for ongoing monthly Gymnastics classes for ages 3 & up. The Defense Arts Center (DAC), 1302 Monte Vista, Suite #1 in Upland, offers Karate classes. Ontario Skate Center, 1225 W. Holt Blvd. in Ontario, offers Figure Skating and Ice Hockey classes. Roller Skating classes meet at Skate Express, 12356 Central Ave. in Chino. A 2-morning per week preschool ("Mini-School") meets on MW and/or TTH for children ages 3-4 (12-week sessions). For elementary and middle school students, After School Programs (until 6 PM), run jointly with the Ontario-Montclair School District, meet at Lehigh, Mission, Monte Vista, and Kingsley Elementary Schools, and at Serrano Middle School. These programs include academic assistance (homework), enrichment programs (crafts, art, drama, music, dancing, painting), recreational activities (games and sports), and a nutritious snack daily. The Teen Scene program for youth ages 11-17, meets on TTH from 2-5 PM, and includes activities and events such as music, swimming, talent show, basketball, arts & crafts, field trips and tournaments. High school students ages 16-18 can earn Community Service hours through the volunteer program (909-445-1819 for information). A Senior Citizens program (909-625-9462 or 909-625-9456 for information) at the Community Center offers recreational programs such as Bingo, Bunco, Needlecraft, Billiards, Karaoke, and Card Games, as well as Health, Nutrition, Legal, Counseling and Social Services. A "Handy Helper" program, staffed by volunteers, provides seniors help with household chores and home repair/maintenance.

Classes and programs include Aerobics, Sports, Dance & Cheerleading, Dog Obedience, Gymnastics, Aquatics/Swimming, Martial Arts, Sewing, Toddler Music, and a Preschool (Tot Time). In addition to these programs, the city’s Park & Recreation Department offers various special events and classes/programs, such as volleyball, quilting, hip-hop, indoor T-ball, drill team, ball room dancing, art, adult jiu jitsu, midget running club, Mardi Gras run, parking lot sales, and Christmas Craft Fair. Loma Linda Recreation and Parks No organized municipal recreation department

Loma Linda operates 5 parks for community use. Cottonwood Park, at the intersection of Cottonwood & Mountain View Avenues, features a. 3.6 acre playground & tot area. 4 other parks, Hulda Crooks , Leonard Bailey, Elmer Digneo, and City Baseball Fields include restrooms, drinking fountains and 3 of those parks offer shade trees/shaded areas. Several of the parks offer concrete and/or wooden benches, and electricity can be provided upon request. City Baseball Fields and Elmer Digneo Parks focus on facilities for baseball, but also have an open area for football, soccer and other activities. Hulda Crooks and Elmer Digneo Parks include playground areas (with a tot lot at Elmer Digneo and a sand volleyball court at Hulda Crooks). Digneo Park also includes a BBQ Pit area and Half-Basketball Court. South Hills Park consists of 850 acres unimproved with an informal trails system. Any group activities at the parks require a park use permit.

29 Palms Community Services Department provides seasonal and year round sports programs and activities for youth and adults. The adult sports programs include co-ed, church league and men's softball, basketball, soccer, water volleyball, regular volleyball and youth sports include arena soccer, soccer, flag football, girls volleyball, boy's and girl's basketball. Other youth activities include summer day camp (at the community center) and events such as the Halloween Fun Fest, Santa Phone calls, and Easter Egg Hunt. During the summer Red Cross swim lessons are offered. Facilities include Luckie Park and Knott's Sky Park. Knott's Sky Park, on El Sol Avenue, features a baseball field and small playground area. Luckie Park, off of Two Mile Road & Utah Trail, includes the community's swimming pool (open during the summer), 2 playground areas, 3 picnic shelters, a lighted skateboard park, and various sports facilities including 2 lighted basketball courts, 4 lighted baseball fields, a lighted soccer field, horseshoe pits, and 3 racquetball courts. Twentynine Palms Theater, at Sullivan Road, hosts various programs and events. Instructor classes such as tae kwon do, aerobics, rubber stamping, scrapbooking, and guitar lessons meet year round at various locations. The Yucca Valley Community Services Department oversees or coordinates a number of community programs and events, including the recreational activities program, spring adult softball leagues, summer concerts in the park, summer aquatics, senior citizen trips & excursions, The Grubstake 10K, 5K and 2K run, and the Starry Nights Festival. Other local organizations providing recreational opportunities include Morongo Basin Youth Soccer Association (MBYSA), Tri-Valley Little League (TVLL), Hi Desert Sandsharks Swim Team, and Boys and Girls Club of the Hi Desert. Joshua Tree National Park is a habitat for plants and animals native to the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. The park includes 2 visitor centers (Oasis & Cottonwood, both open daily year round) and Black Rock Nature Center (open daily Oct.-May). Hi-Desert Nature Museum focuses on collections and exhibitions related to the desert's unique natural and historical elements. The museum includes a Natural History Diorama containing a representation of wildlife in the desert, a Kid's Korner with hands-on activities, Mini Zoo with live creatures of the desert, a Gem and Mineral Collection, rotating temporary exhibits, a Native American and Fossil Collection, and a Gift Shop.

Grand Terrace Community Services Department operates 2 parks, Richard Rollins at 22735 De Berry and Pico at 21950 Pico Street. Both parks include parking, restrooms, picnic tables and toddler playgrounds. Rollins Park's facilities also include soccer fields, while Pico Park features 3 baseball/softball fields and 2 basketball courts. The picnic facilities are available for rental. Organized activities in the community include the Blue Waves Summer Swim Program at the Terrace View Middle School Pool, staffed by the Riverside YMCA, 909- 430-2201, swimming@cityofgrandterrace.org, Grand Terrace Little League, 909-342-2220, grandterraceLL@aol.com, and Grand Terrace Community Soccer League, 909-715-2200 (ages 4-17).

Big Bear Valley Recreation and Parks District manages a number of parks, including Big Bear City Park, Dana Point Park, Erwin Lake Park, Meadow Park and Beach, Miller Park, Moonridge Animal Park, and Sugarloaf Park. The district also provides recreational activities, oversees the Senior Citizen's Center, and operates the Rainbow Kids Club program.
