School District
The Riverside Unified School District enrolls 42,012 students in kindergarten through grade 12, and covers a major portion of the city of Riverside, as well as the Highgrove and Woodcrest areas outside the city. The District operates 46 schools - 1 special education pre-school Sunshine Early Childhood Center), 30 elementary, 6 middle (grades 7-8), 5 comprehensive high (grades 9-12), 2 continuation high, 1 alternative school, and 1 opportunity high. 6,714 students (16%) are classified as Limited English Proficient, and 13,567 (32.3%) qualify for the compensatory education program. The district employs 1,830 classroom teachers, and 127 staff members for pupil services. All comprehensive high schools are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
