Alvin Parks and Recreation Department 800 Dyche Lane Alvin, Texas 77511 281-388-4299

Alvin Parks and Recreation Department offers a number of programs, classes and special events for all ages. Year-round programs include Karate, Swimming (Harby Junior High Pool), and Seasonal Sports. Summer programs include Swimming (including a WSI class), Youth Sports and Recreation Camps, and Tennis Classes. The department operates a Community Services Program, which helps keep the City streets and parks clean, and assists with special projects and events. The department maintains 11 parks, and is using bond money to upgrade a variety of park facilities. Bob S. Owen Pool, at 919 Bayou Dr, features 3 new tube slides, 3 shade pavilions, a restroom facility, drinking fountains, a new zero-depth spray-park, and new decking. The Alvin Senior Citizen Center, at 309 W. Sealy, is a 10,000 square foot facility offering various programs, and available for rentals. The parks collectively feature playgrounds (playground equipment), swings, hiking & biking trails, athletic fields/baseball diamonds (some lighted), walking/jogging trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, pavilions (some covered), picnic tables, drinking fountains, restrooms, and parking. Several parks feature oak trees for shade.

Angleton Parks and Recreation Dept, 121 S. Velasco, Angleton TX 77515, 979-849-0410

The Angleton Parks and Recreation Department administers, manages and implements all recreation programs in Angleton, including recreation classes, adult/youth sports leagues, special events, civic and cultural programs and volunteer services. Many of the classes and programs are held at Angleton Recreation Center, which features a Natatorium with a zero depth entry, four lap lanes, leisure pool & playground whirlpool, lazy river and bubble bench; a Workout Room, with treadmills, stationary bicycles, free weights and fitness stations; a full-size gym that overlooks a landscaped courtyard and features basketball and volleyball courts; and multi-purpose rooms for classes and meetings. Other recreation facilities include Angleton City Pool, open from June to August, which along with the pool features an adjacent playground area with 2 covered pavilions, and Bates, Masterson, Brushy Bayou, and Welch Parks. Masterson & Brushy Bayou Parks each offer a volleyball court, playground and pavilion areas. Bates and Welch Parks feature athletic fields, some lighted (youth softball, youth & adult baseball, soccer), small pavilions and playground areas. Bates Park also offers a 3/4 mile paved biking and jogging looped path, picnic tables and a lighted basketball pavilion area. Athletic fields at the two parks are often used for sports league games. Veterans Park features a gazebo that is often rented out for weddings and small family services. The park also hosts special events, such as Christmas on the Square, Flag Day Ceremony, and Fun Runs. B. G. Peck Soccer Complex is dedicated to soccer, with 11 soccer fields as well as playground areas, a restroom & concession area, and 5 pavilions that can each accommodate 20-100 people. All of the pavilions are available for rental.

The Parks & Recreation Department maintains and develops the city park properties, provides recreational and educational programs and classes, and organizes special events, such as the Great Texas Mosquito Festival, Harvest Fun Fest, and Christmas in the Park. Recreation facilities include Stratton Ridge Sportsplex, Cobb Field, Clute Municipal Park, and Clute Community Center. Stratton Ridge Sportsplex offers lighted softball fields, soccer field, playground, concession stand, scoreboard, covered bleachers, picnic/BBQ areas, and restrooms. Clute Municipal Park features covered pavilions, a food serving bar in the large pavilion, covered BBQ pit, picnic tables, individual BBQ pits, playgrounds, basketball & volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, restrooms, concrete surface hike/bike trail, disc golf course, and gazebo exercise units. Clute Municipal Pool is also located in Clute Municipal Park, and offers swimming lessons at all levels from Beginner to Advanced. The pool, open June 1-mid-August, features a 50 Meter Recreational Pool Wading Pool, 1 Meter Diving Board Double Slide, Water Basketball, Sand Volleyball Court, Youth Play Area, Picnic Tables, Lounge Chairs, Covered Areas, and Water Toys (Floating Snake, Frog Slide, Alligator & Lily Pads). Clute Community Center, with a capacity of 125, is available for rental, and offers Tiled Flooring, Table/Chairs, Restrooms, and a Full Kitchen Facility with appliances. Cobb Field features Two Multi-Use Lighted Youth Fields for Softball & Soccer, and a Concession Stand. Three neighborhood parks (Broaddus, Wilson & Hardy) offer playgrounds, picnic tables, BBQ pits, swings, basketball hoops, and a small covered pavilion (Wilson Park).

Freeport offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. Recreational facilities include Freeport Municipal Park, The Freeport Racquetball & Recreation Center, and Freeport Municipal Golf Course. Freeport Municipal Park hosts a number of family oriented events each year, including an Easter Egg Hunt, Kid Fish, Riverfest, Cinco de Mayo, Rotary Shrimp Boil and Holiday on the Brazos. The Freeport Racquetball & Recreation Center features two regulation racquetball courts, gym, weight room with free weights and machines, volleyball court, table tennis, games for children and a swimming pool, and offers family and individual memberships. The Recreation Center (979-233-6061) also offers water & step aerobics, karate classes, basketball, swimming lessons, weightlifting and the chance to participate in the Freeport Area Swim Team. Freeport Municipal Golf Course (979-233-8311) is an 18-hole course, with a driving range, professional shop, carts, club rental and lessons available. The course is open on both a membership and daily fee basis.  The City of Freeport and Local Youth Sports Associations provide a wide variety of organized sports and leagues, including Little League Baseball, Freeport Recreation Association-Girls Softball, Freeport Soccer Association, and Youth Football. Freeport's proximity to the Gulf of Mexico provides opportunities for sunbathing, swimming or surf fishing at Bryan Beach, as well as scuba diving or deep-sea fishing in the Gulf.

The Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational and educational programs and classes for all ages, including swimming lessons for all ability levels, adult softball leagues, aqua aerobics, land aerobics (cardio combo, body burn, advanced step, boot camp, pilates, multi-step madness, get pumped, condition, pump & crunch, yoga). Recreation facilities include various sports complexes, Dunbar Pavilion, MacLean Pavilion, Jasmine Hall, the Civic Center, the Outdoor Pool and the Recreation Center. Lake Jackson Recreation Center is a 65,500 sq. ft facility featuring 2 Indoor Swimming pools, including a 25 yard lap pool and a recreational pool with a 103 linear foot water slide, a mushroom slide, a tree slide, a mushroom fountain, a water aerobics area, water basketball, and a toddler’s wading pool. The facility also contains a full size gym, equipped for basketball and volleyball, racquetball courts, an equipped weight/cardiovascular training room, a locker room/shower facility, a family changing room, a snack/vending area, and a nursery offering child care for members whose children are ages 6 months-7 years. The Outdoor Pool, at 300 Magnolia in Madge Griffith Park, is open during the summers starting on or around Memorial Day, with paid daily admission. The pool is also available for rental. Memberships are available for both the fitness center and swimming pools (natatoriums). Summer activities/events include Splash Days and Jr. Lifeguard Camps for youth ages 11-14 (swimming ability of level 4 or higher).

The Pearland Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of programs and activities for all ages. Independence Park, at Liberty Drive & John Lizer Road, is Pearland's biggest recreational facility, featuring lighted tennis courts, a 50-meter pool, a hike and bike trail, a BBQ shelter (Available for Rental), and 2 restroom facilities. The pool and BBQ shelter are available for rental. Centennial Park offers lighted basketball and tennis courts, softball and soccer fields, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, a pond, and a jogging trail. The picnic pavilions are available for rental. Southdown Park features a walking path, baseball backstops, a football/soccer field, a water splash pad, and an off leash dog park. Westside Event Center, 2150 Countryplace Parkway, 713- 436-8600, is available for rental, and features a sand volleyball courts, picnic units, fitness stations, a playground, and restroom facilities. The center hosts various day and week-long summer camp programs. 8 other parks throughout Pearland offer a variety of facilities, including playground equipment, swings, and picnic tables and benches. Wheelchair accessible Hyde Park also features a covered pavilion and paved walking/jogging path among its grove of 80 trees. Rotary Park Playground offers a lighted walking path. Pearland Community Center, at 3523 Liberty Drive, is used for recreation classes and private rentals. During the summer, Pearland and Jamison Recreation Centers, both located at area public middle or junior high schools, host recreational programs. Pearland Recreation Center, 2315 Old Alvin Road, 281-485-8296, is the site of the Kid-tastic Summer Camp (new for 2006, ages 6-12, 8-5 M-F, with ext. before- & after-camp hours of 7-8 AM 7 5-6 PM) and hosts various sports leagues. Jamison Recreation Center, 2506 Woody Road, 281-485-3798, is available weekdays and some weekday evenings for open play basketball, and recreation classes are held in the classrooms and cafeteria. The Melvin Knapp Senior Center, 2425 S Grand Blvd, 281- 485-9875, is open weekdays and offers a variety of classes and activities for individual age 50 or more, including recreational programs, transportation services, and a nutritional hot lunch program sponsored by the United Way Agency ActionS. "Senior Scene, a bi-monthly newsletter, contains up to date information about programs, transportation services and monthly events. Recreation programs include Adult & Youth Basketball & Football Leagues, Adult Bowling, Softball & Volleyball Leagues, Pearland Community Band, Cooking, Creative Arts, Dance, Health/Fitness, Interior Decorating, Karate, Music, Swimming Lessons, Tennis, Tumbling, Outdoor Recreation, Special Interests (e.g. Dog Obedience), and Preschool (Kiddie Kapers, Kiddie Kollege). Numerous special events are held throughout the year. Program accommodations are available to individuals with special needs.

Sweeny Parks and Recreation maintains 4 parks at various locations throughout Sweeny. Oak & Pecan Tree shaded Backyard Park, behind City Hall on FM 524, features a newly paved Drive-Thru Park, Covered Pavilion, Picnic Tables, Barbeque Grills, Restroom Facilities, Sand Volleyball Court, A.M. Tree-shaded "Chick" Anderson Park, on FM 524, features a Gazebo and a Children’s Playground. Martin Luther King Park, Martin Luther King & Fourth Streets, features a Children’s Playground, Picnic Tables and Small Basketball Court. Compost Park, on FM 524, features lots of open space. The city doesn't have a formal recreation program, but facilities for baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, bicycling, running, and weight training are all available.

West Columbia maintains and operates 4 parks and a municipal pool. Loggins Street Park, in the 800 block of Loggins Drive, offers playground equipment & picnic tables. "Rosenwald School Park", on the corner of Clay and Broad Streets, is under renovation. First Capitol Park, on North 13th St (FM 2852), 979 345-7153, features a Fishing Lake stocked with Bass and Catfish (Texas Fishing License required), and hosts KidFish in March. It also offers 3 Lighted Softball Fields available for rental. RV Park, 979-345-2760, offers RV Hookup's with Water, Gray Water, and Electricity. The City Pool, 1300 N. 13th (FM 2852), 979-345-7153, is open on a daily admission fee or family/single pass basis on summer afternoons daily until school starts, then on weekends until after Labor Day weekend. Water aerobics classes are offered at the pool. Other recreational facilities include a pavilion, available for daily rental, w/restroom facilities and picnic tables, and a 1/2 mile hiking trail.
