Recreational facilities in Denton include 29 parks, open spaces and other facilities. Major parks include North Lakes Park, which houses North Lakes recreation/fitness center, the Goldfield Tennis Center, a one mile hike and bike trail, a softball complex, an athletic complex with nine soccer fields, six softball fields, an 18 hole disc golf course and a concession/restroom building, two lakes, playground equipment, picnic areas, and a rugby field, a model airplane flying field and large open spaces. 200 acre South Lakes Park features a large wooden playground called "Eureka." built by community volunteers, designed by Robert Leathers, a science-manipulative park specialist, and incorporating ideas submitted by neighborhood children. The park also features hike and bike trails, playground equipment, tennis courts, picnic pavilions, a lake and fishing pier. Quakertown Park, hosts many park department sponsored special events and houses the Civic Center swimming pool, picnic areas, a playground, and the Garden of the Seasons. Other facilities include a skate park that features a series of ramps at varying heights, platforms and fun boxes, along with curb railings, the adjacent Water Works Park, Lake Forest Dog Park, Denton Community Garden at Bowling Green Park, Greenbelt Hike/Bike/Equestrian Trail, Goldfield Tennis Center, with 9 courts (all but 1 lighted), and 2 Recreation Centers (Denia and Martin Luther King), 1001 Parvin St & 1300 Wilson St, respectively. The recreation centers host state licensed Denia/King Kids Preschool and Day Care Denton (registration at Denia Center). Recreation facilities in Roanoke include the Roanoke Recreation Center, which features a weight room with a full line of Selectorized upper and lower body strength development equipment, a Smith machine, bench press and Olympic squat rack, cardio equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes and a stair climber, an aerobics room for aerobic and fitness classes, racquetball courts, full size basketball courts (one convertible to a volleyball court), a Children's Activity Center providing child care for children of class participants and users of the fitness equipment, classrooms for educational classes and activities (available for meetings/party rentals), a game room with a billiard table, air hockey table, ping pong table, foosball table, and big screen TV, and a 2-level gym with walking track encircling the second level. Other recreation facilities include 6 parks, collectively featuring Athletic Fields (Little League Baseball, Softball, Soccer), Basketball Courts, Open Fields for Kite Flying, Walking Trails (some lighted), Playground Equipment, and Pavilions with Picnic Tables. Recreation facilities in Lake Dallas include 5 parks, which collectively feature playgrounds, picnic tables and benches, baseball fields, and trails. Centrally located City Park hosts sports activities and features soccer fields (created & used by the Lake Cities Soccer Association) and Youth football & baseball fields (used by their respective associations for seasonal games). Planned improvements to City Park include a new basketball court, new concession stand building with adjoining pavilion & picnic tables, lighting and ceiling fans, new landscaping, walking trails, public restrooms, new lighting, park benches and a butterfly garden at the entrance to the park by the current Veteran’s Memorial. Willow Grove Park, which borders Lake Lewisville, offers natural areas for fishing and picnicking. Planned improvements to Willow Grove Park include a fishing pier, small playground, RV dump station, additional campsites, more walking trails and a concession stand with pavilion. Thousand Oaks Park offers a woodland setting with fishing, a wildlife pond with fish, turtles and farm ducks, a dirt walking trail around the pond and a concrete sidewalk along the northern edge of the park. River Oaks Park offers two play structures for children ages 2-12, a picnic pavilion with barbeque grill, a play field for sports practice or games, a walking and biking track, and park benches.

Recreational facilities in Little Elm include 4 Community Parks, 6 Neighborhood Parks, 11 Mini Parks, 1 Linear Park (Sunrise Bay Nature Trail) and 2 Joint Use Park/School (Old Little Elm Junior High, Little Elm H.S.). Parks collectively feature Baseball/Softball Diamonds, Practice Fields, Soccer Fields, Basketball, Tennis & Volleyball Courts, Exercise Stations, Swimming Pools/Areas, Playgrounds, Trails, Picnic Areas, Historic/Memorial Sites, Pavilions, Natural Areas and Flood Plains. Little Elm Park also uniquely features a Boat Ramp/Launch, Fishing Pier, Horseshoe Pits, Campsites, and Ampitheater. Cottonwood Park houses the town's only Marina. Preston on the Lakes Parks offers the town's only Practice Fields. Recreation programs include sports leagues, including Co-Ed Softball, Baseball and Soccer.

The Parks Board serves in an advisory capacity to recommend improvements of the park and recreation areas. The Board is charged to stimulate public interest in the development and maintenance of parks and playgrounds and to promote close cooperation between the City and private citizens so that all park and recreational facilities are used to their maximum benefit. This Board contains seven members and two alternate members with appointments made by approval of the Council as a whole. The Haslet Parks and Recreation Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at City Hall.

Recreation facilities in Ponder consist of Eddie Deussen Jr. Park, which is adjacent to City Hall. Plans for the park include a covered picnic area with barbeque facilities and restroom, a playground, open space and a soccer/flag football practice field. Future plans include the construction of a park in the Remington Park subdivision, which may feature a baseball/softball facility, picnic and playground areas, and a walking/biking trail. Recreation activities in Ponder include special events, such as Frontier Day, a benefit for the Ponder Volunteer Fire Department, and Fall Festival, sponsored by the Ponder Independent School District

The Parks Board, appointed by the City Council, makes recommendations and helps establish policies for the City's park system. The board's goals are to protect Krum's green space and provide recreational opportunities for residents.
