The Dallas Park and Recreation Department maintains over 21,000 park acres including 17 lakes with 4,400 surface acres of water at 17 park sites, over 17,000 acres of greenbelt/park land, and about 61 miles of jogging and bike trails at 24 locations. Fair Park, 214-421-9600 (info hot line), located two miles east of downtown Dallas, is a division of the Dallas Park and Recreation Department that houses nine museums, including Dallas Aquarium, Texas Discovery Gardens and Dallas Children's Museum/Museum of Nature & Science, and six performance facilities, such as the Music Hall, Smirnoff Music Centre, Band Shell and the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Fair Park also hosts the State Fair of Texas for three weeks each fall. Other attractions, operated by or affiliated with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, include the Dallas Zoo, 650 South R.L. Trinity Interpretive Center, located in the center of the Trinity River Corridor which includes the Great Trinity Forest's trail system for hiking/jogging, biking and horseback riding; offers eco-tourism activities; aquatic, archaeological and historical exhibits; and theme gardens. Facilities at the 374 neighborhood, community and regional parks include recreation centers, tennis centers, golf courses, community and neighborhood pools, tennis courts, multipurpose, soccer and football fields, softball and baseball diamonds, playgrounds, "spraygrounds", sandlots and picnic pavilions. Recreation programs include a free, drop-in, summer recreational program for youth ages 6-15 (M-F during June/July) at camp sites throughout the city; adult softball; after-school activities for elementary school age children, classes for all ages such as Karate, Bridge, Crafts and Sports, and various special events throughout the year.

Recreation facilities in Irving include 42 parks (including 4 trail parks), 9 recreation centers, Heritage Senior Center, and Twin Wells Golf Course (in Twin Wells Park). The parks collectively feature Hiking/Biking trails, Picnicking, Fishing, Playgrounds, Tennis and Basketball Courts, Athletic Fields, Pools and Aquatics, Drinking Fountains and Restrooms. Fritz Park also features Disc Golf, an Ampitheater and a Petting Zoo. Heritage Park offers a caboose. Centennial Park features a Log Cabin & Founders Plaza. California Crossing Park offers a river outlook. Champions Park has an exercise station. Jaycee Park offers a Botanical Garden & Police Memorial. Lively Pointe Youth Center is a meeting place for teens and also features computers and an exercise station. Millenium Park has a fountain. Mountain Creek Preserve features a Sandlot Field, Cricket Court, Horseshoe Pit, Horseback Riding Area and Canoe Launch. Mustang Recreation Center offers a tennis court and practice ball field (daytime use for each). Trinity View Park hosts Adult Softball, Youth Baseball and Youth Football, with a complex for each. Victoria Park offers an Ampitheater and Disc Golf. North Lake and Heritage Aquatics Centers offer aquatic activities, such as swim lessons, recreational/public swim (memberships or daily/seasonal passes), competitive swim team (Irving Swimmers for youth, Masters Swim for adults and T.A.A.F. Swim Team for all ages) and water aerobics/fitness. All city recreation centers host programs for youth/teens and adults, including sports, fitness, arts & crafts, dance and educational programs such as Spanish instruction (offerings vary from center to center). Cimarron, Heritage, Lee, Mustang, Northwest, Senter and West recreation Centers house weight/fitness rooms for adults (ages 16-18 w/parent) with individual or family memberships available (Heritage for age 50+). Mustang, Lee, Northwest, West, Cimarron and Senter Park Recreation Centers offer before and/or after school programs for children in grades K-5 (6-week sessions). Cimarron, Lee, Mustang, Northwest, Senter and West Recreation Centers offer classes/programs for preschoolers, including sports, dance, cooking, arts & crafts and fitness; Cimarron also hosts Parent/Toddler programs (Gym Time, Adventures). Heritage Senior Center, 200 South Jefferson, 972-721-496, hosts a variety of programs for individuals 50 years of age and older, such as social activities, exercise, dance, and arts & crafts classes, transportation (age 60+) and meals (continental breakfast, hot lunch). IPAR Therapeutic Recreation Program, at Lively Pointe Recreation Center, 909 N O'Conner St, 972-721-8090, provides therapeutic recreation activities for all individuals of all ages with mental and physical challenges. Programs include (but are not limited to) Special Olympics, After School Activities and Arts & Crafts. Various local sports organizations also provide programs: sports include baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, tennis, football*, cheerleading* and gymnastics*. *Youth only. Twin Wells Golf Course Walk Around Irving is a self-motivated walking program for ages 13 & up. All programs are held at no charge at Austin, Houston, Lamar, and Lively Pointe Recreation Centers; fees are charged for some classes/programs at the other centers.

Kirby Creek Indoor Pool (Natatorium), open in the afternoons Mon-Sat, offers water fitness classes ("Wetworks", "The Wellness Workout") for adults, Splash TAAF Summer Recreational Swim Team (practices also held at Bowles Outdoor Pool), Swim Evolution ("The Competitive Workout") year-round USA Swim Team and Open Swim. The senior center offers a variety of activities daily, including Tournaments Poker – Texas Hold’em, Line Dancing, Hula Dance, Jewelry Making, Ceramics, Oil Painting, Stained Glass, Quilting, Square Dance, and Computer classes. The center also features an Exercise Room and offers Thursday night dances with live bands, local & regional day trips and out of state excursions. Bowles Life Center, Grand Prairie’s newest facility, features a full size gym, game room and fitness room/equipment (aerobic/ weight machines), indoor running/walking track, police store front, branch library, public computer lab, and two meeting rooms. Recreation programs at this facility include camps for kids, youth, and teens, volleyball clinics and specialty classes. Charley Taylor Recreation Center features a weight room, an exercise room and meeting rooms. Recreation programs/activities at this facility include summer day camps, sports (basketball tournaments, soccer Lessons, Pre-K T-ball, Pre-K indoor basketball league, PK Learning Camp, open volleyball night), and the Fall After-School Program (ages 6-12) for students at Crockett, Seguin and Zavala Elementary schools (transportation is provided, included in the rate). Dalworth Recreation Center features a Full-Sized Gym, Multi-Purpose Room (available for rentals), Full-Size Kitchen with Refrigerator, Range, Microwave and Dishwasher, Game Room with table, video games, and a big-screen TV, Computer Lab, Landscaped Demonstration Garden with Gazebo, Kilns and Quilting Racks. Recreation programs/activities at this facility include summer day camps (ages 6-12), sports, arts and crafts, special events, dance, gymnastics, and exercise/wellness. The center also offers a Free Lunch Program on weekdays during the summer for children ages 18 and under (Noon-1 PM., first come basis while supply lasts) and First Friday Tea Room Trips (lunch at a different Tea Room around the Metroplex, transportation via the Grand Connection). Prairie Lakes Golf Course features a 27-hole course, clubhouse, driving range, practice putting area and pavilion. Tangle Ridge Golf Club offers an 18-hole course, clubhouse, driving range and practice putting area. Grand Prairie's parks collectively feature lighted and unlighted sports fields (baseball, softball, t-ball, soccer, football, multi-purpose), practice backstops, lighted and unlighted sand volleyball, basketball, & tennis courts, horseshoe pits, concrete trails/rest stops, short distance walking trails, jogging trails, playgrounds, meeting facilities, shade trees, ponds/fishing piers, gazebos (some covered), picnic tables, barbecue grills, pavilions (some covered), group shelters, concession buildings, water fountains, restrooms, parking lots and night lighting. Several of the lake parks are fee-based sites, offering such amenities as overnight campsites, fully-furnished cabins, day use areas, boat ramps, picnic shelters and swimming beach. Several parks have unique features: McFalls Park houses a historic cabin, Mike Lewis Park offers an equestrian arena, Turner Park features a women's club building and an outdoor learning center, Kirby Creek Park offers a natural science education center (joint city/school site, composting site), L.B.J. Park houses "children safety town", Mountain Creek Soccer Complex features 4 arbors, Fish Creek Forest Preserve offers a nature area and Fish Creek Linear Park offers the Nancy-Dillard Lyon national recreation concrete trail (with rest stops). Perry Homestead Museum, 1509 N. Perry Road, 972-466-6380, is a restored version of the structure built in 1909 by the son of pioneer homesteaders A.W. and Sarah (Huffman) on the farm they homesteaded in 1857.
Athletics: Youth & Adult Basketball, Flag Football, Golf, Youth Volleyball & Track & Field. 5-acre Crosby Community Center, 1610 E. Crosby Rd, 972-466-9810, houses meeting rooms and classrooms, a boxing ring, a gym, a weight room, 2 handball & racquetball courts, a central office, game and refreshment areas, and staff offices. Rosemeade Recreation Center, 1330 Rosemeade Parkway, houses 2 gyms, full-sized basketball & volleyball court, a weight & fitness room, a game room, 4 racquetball courts, lockers, refreshment areas, classrooms, mirrors, bars & a dance floor for classes, restrooms, central office & customer service counters. The surrounding area (Rosemeade Park) offers a playground and the Rosemeade Swimming Complex. Both recreation centers host a variety of recreation classes, activities and special events, including Mad Science, Nature Tales, GIS & GPS Workshops. Rosemeade also offers hourly childcare for members and class participants during specified AM & afternoon/evening hours M-F. Oak Creek Tennis Center, 2531 Oak Creek Dr, 972-466-6389, features 12 lighted hard courts with shaded court benches, shaded spectator areas and a pro shop including concessions. Oak Creek Tennis Center, which has 12 USPTA and PTR certified teaching professionals, hosts a variety of adult and junior programs, tournaments and special events year-round, and is home to men's, women's, mixed and senior teams competing in USTA, TCD and Metro league play, and to three high school teams. The Amphitheater, 2035 E. Jackson Rd, a facility designed for community rentals, has 4 acres of natural surroundings and features a raised stage, restrooms, water fountain, parking, and bench seating for about 300 people, with additional ground seating for about 500 more. 415 acre, 36-hole Indian Creek Golf Course, 1650 Frankford Rd, includes a clubhouse complete with pro-shop and snack bar. 220-acre McInnish Park, 2335 Sandy Lake Rd, 972-466-9813, houses the McInnish Sports Complex, which features softball fields, a senior league field, soccer fields, and a high school baseball field, all of which are lit, concession stands, restrooms, roadways & parking lots, as well as picnic tables, walking paths, water activities at Sandy Lake, and playground facilities. 34 acres of the park north of Sandy Lake are leased, with facilities on that portion including picnic tables, grills, a multipurpose sports field for soccer, river frontage for canoeing and fishing and a boat ramp. The park also houses Elm Fork Nature Preserve, which offers trails open daily from dawn to dusk, with no admission fee. American Indoor, 1400 W. Hebron Parkway, offers KOOSN (Kids Out On Saturday Night) for youth in grades 5-8. Summer camps offered include Camp Funtastics, SummerScapes, Kidscope and Teen Cool Connections (972-466-9816 or 972-466-9809 for info), Adventure Camp & Mad Science (972-466-9813 for info) or call the Camp Hotline (972-466-9151). The 17,300 square-foot Senior Center, 1720 Keller Springs Rd, 972-466-4850, features a large ballroom with a wood dance floor, meeting, exercise and fitness rooms, boardwalk piers on the lake, a hiking/biking trail, picture windows overlooking the lake and wetlands, a full-service kitchen, and administrative offices. Weekly activities include Dominoes, Ukulele, Hand & Foot Canasta, Party Bridge, Ping Pong, Pinochle, Crafts, Bunka Embroidery, Ceramics, Dances, Hand-working Circle, Watercolor Painting and Walking, Stretch and Aerobic classes, with new equipment such as treadmills, recumbent bicycles, an elliptical trainer, and upper body weight machines, including free weights. Monthly luncheons are also held and various seminars & workshops are offered. Carrollton's parks collectively feature playgrounds, tennis courts (some lighted), multipurpose courts (some lighted), basketball courts, sports fields (some lighted), walking/jogging paths, hike & bike trails, park benches, picnic areas/facilities (e.g. tables, grills, group shelters-some with electricity, pavilions), fishing piers, drinking fountains, restrooms, concession stands/areas, and trash receptacles. A few parks include parking lots and roadways. Tree-lined Francis Perry Park offers an ADA accessible parking space and sidewalk to access playground area. The greenbelt parks offer natural area for observing birds and wildlife and Josey Ranch Greenbelt features a 50 acre sports complex with a 3.5-acre lake and 18-hole disc golf course. Martha Pointer Park offers a playing field with backstop for recreational (as opposed to organized) sports. Oak Hills Park features a sand volleyball court. R. E. Good Sports Complex, an extension of McInnish Park Sports Complex, includes a nature trail and an overlook shelter. Standridge Memorial features lighting, landscaping, seating, and an underground sprinkler system. Ward Steenson Park offers concrete sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, and interpretive signs. W. J. Thomas Park, 1955 N. Perry Rd, features an Olympic size swimming pool. Mary Heads Carter Park includes Kids Corral Playground, constructed in 1991 through a community effort.

Recreation programs/activities include sports classes and leagues, sailboarding, aquatics, including swim lessons, recreational swim, water fitness, lifeguard classes, arts & crafts, fitness, community education, dance & performing arts, martial arts, and outdoor adventures. Seniors can participate in programs designed for individuals age 50 & up. Various special events, such as Star Spangled Fourth Picnic in the Park, Fishing Derby, Birthday Parties at Audubon, Juneteenth Celebration, and Lawnchair Theater-Movies in the Park, are held during the summer or throughout the year. Recreation facilities in Mesquite include recreation centers, parks, picnic shelters, soccer complexes, swimming pools, fishing ponds, a tennis center, a golf course and undeveloped/open space areas. The recreation centers collectively feature gyms, fitness rooms, conference rooms and meeting rooms. Dunford Community Center also offers a multi-purpose room, indoor volleyball & badminton courts and a weight room. Lakeside Activity Building, 101 Holley Park Dr and Westlake House, 600 Gross Rd, are available by reservation. The parks collectively offer playgrounds, baseball fields, sports practice fields/clay infields, basketball & tennis courts (some lighted), picnic tables/areas (one with grills & trash receptacles), trails and small ponds. The 2 soccer complexes collectively feature soccer fields and concession/restroom buildings. Bruton Soccer Complex also has a parking area; Eastfield Soccer Complex offers 2 practice backstops. City Lake Park, 403 S. Galloway, which houses Lakeside Activity Center, also features a picnic facility with a covered picnic shelter enclosing 17 picnic tables and a lighted little league baseball field. The park, which is named for City Lake, the largest body of water in Mesquite, hosts the KidFish event, for which the lake is stocked with 1,000 pounds of catfish. City Lake Aquatic Center, 200 Parkview St, is located just south of the lake. The aquatic center and the 3 other pools are open daily in the afternoon/early evening through a daily cash admission rate or discount punch cards available to residents. West Lake Tennis Center, 601 Gross Rd, 972-289-5326, features six lighted courts, 3 covered courts, a pro shop and dressing rooms and offers group or private lessons for youth & adults and league play for men and women. 21 neighborhood tennis courts, which can be reserved at Westlake Tennis Center on school days after 4:30 P.M on a first come, first served basis, are available at no charge. Mesquite's picnic shelters and pavilions collectively offer playgrounds, grills, trails, baseball fields, trails, restrooms and electricity. DeBusk/Peachtree shelter features Kidsquest playground (a large community built play area). Brandy Station offers a split level playground for children ages 2 to 12; its small size is well suited for toddlers. Valley Creek pavilion, suited for daytime use, features softball complex/football fields, and lakes/fishing piers. Town East pavilion adjoins one of the city's 4 pools, and restroom facilities are located there. Clay Mathis-Greenbelt, 2181 Clay Mathis, located near Horn High School, also offers a basketball court, sand volleyball court, baseball practice field and parking lot. Rorie/Galloway shelter, 3100 Lawson Rd, hosts a summer day camp program and features a lake/pier for catch/release fishing, electricity and restrooms. 154-Acre 18-hole Mesquite Golf Course is a public, city-owned facility featuring a Clubhouse/Pro-shop, a course suited for beginning and intermediate ability level players, and special tee times for the Mesquite Ladies Golf Association and the Mesquite Senior Golf Association.

Recreation facilities in Rowlett include 11 developed & 9 currently undeveloped parks. Rowlett's parks collectively feature playgrounds, picnic areas (some with shelters) and basketball courts. Herfurth Park also features lighted baseball league & tournament youth baseball fields, tennis courts, wiffleball field, hockey rink and a Skate Park. KATY Railroad Park offers practice areas for soccer and baseball in the developed section of the park, along with 12 undeveloped acres of open space. Lakeside Park, along the shoreline of Lake Ray Hubbard, offers facilities for fishing & picnicking, including a fishing pier, sand volleyball court, and paved walking trails. Paddle Point Park, across from Lakeside Park, facilitates water activities with a canoe, kayak and jon boat launch area that provides access to over 100 acres of back water on the lake. Pecan Grove Park, 5300 Main St (next to the Rowlett Community Centre and The Wet Zone) features the Kids Kingdom playground, bank access to Lake Ray Hubbard, and a mile of wooded hiking trails covered by pecan trees. Shorewood Park offers an in-line hockey rink, practice soccer fields, baseball or softball practice field and a covered picnic shelter. Springfield Park houses a 1.1 mile hike/bike trail and practice sites for baseball, soccer, and football, a disc golf course and fishing ponds. Twin Star Park also features a walking trail, in-line hockey rink and practice soccer fields. 138 acre Community Park features lighted soccer fields, softball fields, trails, a pavilion, sand volleyball, horseshoe pits and a lake for fishing. 66 acre Rowlett Nature Trail offers a 1.3 mile hiking path along a waterside wooded trail. Rowlett Community Centre houses a fitness room with free weights, upper and lower body weight machines, multifunctional equipment, treadmills, ellipticals and upright and recumbent bikes; racquetball courts, aerobics room and 2 gyms. The Child’s Play –Drop-In Playtime Program offers care for children ages 6 months to 6 years on MWF mornings & MTTH aft/eve (5-8 PM) while their parents attend a class or use the fitness room. Open gym is offered at specified times.
