At Pope John XXII WE CARE about academics-NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON AWARD for academic excellence; TERRA NOVA scores in top 10% nationally; Science Olympiad Team State of IL qualifier for the past 9 years-2009 winner of 5th place in state for Science Olympiad and Spirit Award Winner; every eighth grader in Algebra, Honors Algebra, or Honors Geometry; starting in Kindergarten all students have French and Spanish foreign language instruction twice a week. Starting in 6th grade foreign language instruction increases from three times a week to daily with a choice of French, Spanish, or Latin. We have a balanced approach-reading with phonics and high quality literature; balanced instruction-direct instruction and independent discover centers starting in preschool; whole class instruction and small group activities.
