The Boston Parks and Recreation Department provides and maintains over 2,200 acres of park land throughout the city including parks, playgrounds, athletic facilities, city squares, urban wilds, street trees and golf courses. Facilities include landmarks such as Boston Common, the Public Garden, and the other parks comprising Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace as well as neighborhood and community parks ranging from tot lots to 527-acre Franklin Park. Boston Common features, among other facilities, Frog Pond, which offers, seasonally, a spray pool for children and a skating rink. The Public Garden offers Swan Boats. Courageous Sailing, located on Boston Harbor, offers sailing programs for all ages. George Wright Golf Course (617-364-2300) in the Hyde Park section of Boston, and William J. Devine Golf Course (617-265-4084) at Franklin Park in Dorchester both are available to golf enthusiasts and have facilities for tournaments and catered events. The Recreation Department also organizes a variety of community events and live entertainment in the city parks. The ParkARTS program brings performing, participatory and visual arts classes and events to parks throughout the city. Boston Centers for Youth & Families facilities, including community centers, gyms and swimming pools, are located throughout the city. The centers offer programs for all ages, including aquatics, sports and fitness programs, dance, drama, music, arts/crafts and computer classes, AM/PM Preschool/PK classes and/or full day child care and Adult Basic Education programs. Some centers offer free programs, while others are membership-based, with memberships for children, teens, adults, senior citizens and families (range of $10-$50, according to membership category, each center has its own membership fee structure).

Recreational facilities in Chelsea include 10 parks and playgrounds. Chelsea also has a private Yacht Club (Chelsea Yacht Club). Sports and recreation groups in Chelsea include Chelsea Boys & Girls Club, 309 Chestnut St, 617-884-9435, Chelsea Pop Warner Football, Box 6111, 617-466-2793 and Chelsea Youth Baseball, 94 Bellingham St, 617-378-1320.

Revere Parks and Recreation 150 Beach St Revere MA 02151 781-286-8190

Revere Parks and Recreation operates several parks, including Louis Pasteur Park, which features a playground, basketball court and picnic tables, and Hill Park, which features a softball field, lighted basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground, and Harry Della Russo Football Stadium. Other facilities include various local schools and city hall. The Youth Center, which includes department offices, offers a variety of preschool and youth programs, including arts & crafts, cooking, computer, playgroups, fitness, mudworks, drop-in playtime for preschoolers and walk-in after school activities (on Thursdays) for school age children. Youth Zone is also offered daily on weekdays after school (except for Wednesdays) from 2:30 until 5:00. Revere has a public beach (Revere Beach) that also hosts horse and dog racing facilities, and a 14-screen cinema. Private dance, soccer and martial arts programs also operate in Revere.

The Winthrop Parks and Recreation Department provides recreation programs at each of the district schools. Newton School, which serves as recreation headquarters and houses Larson Rink, offers an after school program that children can attend on a daily or weekly basis. Other programs that meet here include evening arts & crafts classes, and the "Mom & Me" program (TTH AM). Cumming School offers basketball clinics, floor hockey classes and gym fun programs. Fort Banks Elementary School offers gym fun. Winthrop Middle School offers evening indoor tennis classes for youth/teens and adults. Winthrop High School offers several computer skills classes, focusing on EXCEL, Word and the Internet/Email. Winthrop Senior Center offers line dancing classes. Larsen Rink (617-846-5770) is open to the public on weekends and to school children at certain hours during vacation periods. Various sports organizations, including Winthrop Little League (617-846-1300), Youth Soccer (617-846-8261), Football (617-846-7395), Hockey (617-846 4006), Girls Softball (617-539-1713) and Men's Softball (parks & rec. phone #) are available to residents.
