Recreational facilities in Anne Arundel County include recreation centers, senior centers, trails, golf courses, regional parks, community parks, wharfs, swim centers, sports complexes, and a wetlands sanctuary. County facilities are located in or near the communities of Millersville, Pasadena, Severna Park, Linthicum, Odenton, Crownsville, Galesville, Annapolis, Lothian, Edgewater, Glen Burnie, Gambrills, Severn, Hanover, Ferndale, Brooklyn, Crofton, Fort Meade, and Laurel. The regional and community parks collectively feature paved and natural trails for hiking & jogging, playgrounds, play areas, picnic areas, pavilions & amphitheaters (some can be reserved), baseball/softball, t-ball & multi-purpose fields (some lit), basketball & tennis courts, exercise courses, golf courses, swim centers, bike paths, a skateboard park, seasonal concession stands and restrooms. County residents can call 410-222-7317 for general park information. Anne Arundel County Trails allow walking, jogging, inline skating and skateboarding, cycling, and in some areas, horseback riding, and include national trails, such as the East Coast Greenway and the American Discovery Trail, that intersect in Anne Arundel County, as well as the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail in Severna Park, the BWI Trail that circles BWI International Airport in Linthicum, and the WB&A Trail in Odenton.. The county's wharfs also offer opportunities for fishing and 2 dog park areas located inside existing parks allow free runs for pets. 25-acre Homeport Farms Park is a passive recreation area dedicated to parkland management, nature preservation & restoration, open space & low-impact recreational uses including nature study, gardening, walking & running trails, bicycling, non-motorized watercraft access, environmental research and conservation. The North County Recreation Center (196 Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park, 410-222-0036) and South County Recreation Center (4510 Owensville-Sudley Rd in Harwood, 410-222-1515) collectively host a variety of classes and activities for all ages, including arts/crafts, dance, swimming, fitness, yoga, martial arts, sports (basketball, kickball/dodgeball, women's sports night), and dance. Gymnastics programs, for ages 1 1/2 and older, meet at South County Recreation Center, as well as at Brooklyn Park Middle School, and Bodkin, Crofton Meadows, Broadneck, and Riviera Beach Elementary Schools. Youth karate is offered at North County Recreation Center, as well as at Annapolis, Arnold & South County Senior Centers, and Crofton, Four Seasons, Quarterfield, Ridgeway, Riviera Beach, and Shipley's Choice Elementary schools. The senior centers and various local elementary, middle, and high schools also host a variety of other programs for all ages, including sports, fitness, dance, and enrichment classes. Vuong's, at 1117 Rte 3 North in Gambrills MD, also offers Karate for ages 4-6 (Little Ninjas), as well as Cardio Kickboxing & Yoga for adults. Adaptive Recreation programs for children, teens, and adults (410-222-7313 ext 3554), includes an Adaptive Movement class for ages 5-10, an After School Recreation program for children/teens ages 5-18, a Teen Club for youth age 13 & up, a Saturday Recreation  program for ages 6-16, and an Adult Social Club. Program locations include North County Recreation Center, Ruth Parker Eason Special School & Central Special School. Glen Burnie Town Center Ice Skating, 103 N Crain Hwy, 410-590-5990, offers recreational skating daily, with daily admission rate, pass card for 10 admissions or a season pass (individual or family); and lessons on Tuesday afternoons from 5-6 PM. School Age Child Care, with administrative offices at 1 Harry S Truman Pkwy, Suite 105 in Annapolis, 410-222-7856, offers AM (at all but 3 schools), PM, and AM/PM programs for children in grades K-8 at nearly 3 dozen elementary schools and one middle school (PM only), with weekly rates at the elementary schools ranging from $105-$140 for the AM session, $165-$200 for the PM program, and $305 for the AM/PM program. Crofton Middle school offers TH, MWF, and M-F options (PM). Activities include arts/crafts, sports/games, social skills, self-esteem activities, and enrichment opportunities; program complies with State Child Care Regulations and the NSACA Standards for Quality School-Age Care.

Arundel Swim Center, 2690 Riva Rd, 410-222-7933 or 301-970-2216, features a handicapped accessible, temperature controlled, indoor 50 meter by 25 yard swimming pool with adjacent wading pool, a poolside 17-person spa, two 1-meter diving boards and locker rooms with coin operated lockers, a shower, and a multi-gender family changing room. Pool admission is through daily rate or purchase of a swim pass. Laurel Municipal Swimming Pool is a 4-pool complex, at 9th & Main St, 301-776-7419, that features a recreational 3 foot deep pool, Super Slide, Diving Board, Wading Pool with tear drop fountain, and concession stand; and offers, swim lessons for ages 18 months & up, lap fitness swim, water aerobics-shallow & deep water workouts, competitive swim league and family events such as Lakefest, Splashdown in July and Doggie Dip Day in September (at the end of the pool season). DiPietro Community Center features a multipurpose room, a dance floor, and a small kitchen. 8.1 acre Alice B. Prince George's County Food & Friendship Program offers a hot lunch at noon on weekdays. Greenview Drive Pool Complex, 14403 Greenview Dr, is open from late May through Labor Day; hours are Noon-8 PM daily from mid-June through August, Noon-8 PM on weekends, 4-8 PM weekdays all other periods, Group rates are available for licensed in-home day care providers (season pass) & commercial day camp/day care providers (daily rates). The facilities at Granville Gude Park & Lake House, Laurel Armory Community Center, DiPietro Community Center, Phelps Senior Citizens Center, Riverfront Park, Alice B. McCullough Field, and Laurel Municipal Pool (Meeting Room) are available to rent. The Community Center is open on a daily admission fee basis, or through purchase of 3-month, 6-month, & annual passes, available to both residents & non-residents (different rates), there are also separate category rates for youth, adult, and senior citizen. County facilities include Deerfield Run Community Center, 13000 Laurel-Bowie Road, 301-953-7882; Fairland Regional Park, 13950 Old Gunpowder Road, 301-699-2255; and Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, 9652 Muirkirk Road, 301-377-7800 or 410-792-0664. Deerfield Run Community Center, located inside Deerfield Run Elementary School, features a pre-school room, fitness room, conference room, game room, multi-purpose room, two classrooms and a gym shared with the school; outdoor facilities (on school property) include ball fields, a basketball court, and playground equipment. Recreation programs/activities include sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, self-improvement, computers, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction; the center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities throughout the year. A preschool (ages 3-4) operates on MWF mornings from 9:30-Noon. 150 plus acre Fairland Regional Park houses the Sports and Aquatics Complex, 301-362-6060; and The Gardens Ice House, 301-953-0100 or 410-792-4947. The park, which extends into Montgomery County, also features lighted softball fields and a storm-water management demonstration project area. The athletic fields are available by reservation (Sports Office at 301-918-8100). The Gardens Ice House, a privately-operated facility on M-NCPPC parkland, operates three ice rinks during the winter; an Olympic rink and two NHL rinks that are used for roller hockey in the summer. The Gardens Ice House also features bleacher seating, a two-story lobby with espresso bar, a pro shop, rental skates (figure and hockey), locker rooms with showers, a café, a game room, three party rooms, the Wellness-For-Life Fitness Center, meeting rooms, a library with a fireplace and work center, and a skating museum. The facility hosts a variety of events, including private parties, trade shows, graduations, and meetings. Fairland Tennis Bubble features six indoor tennis courts, lockers and shower facilities; and offers developmental and competitive youth tennis programs, as well as contract and spot time and tennis instruction. Montpelier Arts Center, opened in 1979, houses three exhibition galleries for traditional regional, national and international artists as well as more experimental works; artists' studios, and classrooms for classes and workshops in the visual arts held throughout the year. The Main Gallery hosts performances of the Jazz, Folk/Blues and Classical music series.

 

 

Arnold Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

The parks, all open year round from sunrise to sunset, collectively feature Baseball/Softball Fields (some lit), Multipurpose Fields, Seasonal Concession Stands, Playgrounds, Picnic Areas (some open to reservation), Pavilions (by reservation), Walking/Jogging Trails, and Restrooms. Features unique to Cardinal Park on Underwood Rd include a T-Ball Field and Basketball Courts. Crownsville Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreation facilities in Crownsville include Eisenhower Golf Course, and Arden and Herald Harbor, all county-owned. The parks are both open year round from sunrise to sunset. Arden Park, 1103 Sunrise Beach Rd, features Baseball/Softball Fields (some lit), Multipurpose Fields, and a seasonal Concession Stand. Herald Harbor Park, 350 Kyle Rd, offers Basketball & Tennis Courts, a Playground, and a Picnic Area. 220-acre Eisenhower Golf Course, managed by Billy Casper Golf, Inc, features a driving range and offers individual and group golf instruction, as well as a junior golf camp.

 

 

Davidsonville Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Edgewater Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreational facilities in Edgewater include the YMCA's Camp Letts Stable, Box 208, Camp Letts Road, 410-919-1400; and Edgewater, Loch Haven, Historic London Town and Gardens, and Mayo Beach Parks, all county-owned. The parks collectively feature Baseball/Softball Fields (one lit), and seasonal Concession Stands. Edgewater Park, 209 Maryland Ave, also houses Tennis Courts. Loch Haven Park, 660 Loch Haven Rd, also offers Hiking/Jogging Trails, a lighted Multipurpose Field, a Basketball Courts, a Playground, a Picnic Area, and Restrooms 23-acre Historic London Town and Gardens, managed by the London Town Foundation, includes part of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century town of London (currently being excavated by archaeologists from the Lost Towns Project), and features the William Brown House, a National Historic Landmark house museum open for tours (both tour- and self-guided); an 8-acre woodland garden; the Richard Hill Garden of native and imported medicinal plants; and a multi-purpose pavilion, rented for weddings, corporate and business meetings, and other special events, and a host of lectures and cultural events. Mayo Beach Park, 4150 Honeysuckle Dr, 410-222-1978, features a Playground, Cartop Boat Launch (permit holders), Parking (some handicapped accessible), Restrooms, an Office, and an Unprotected Beach for swimming (at your own risk). The beach is available for day rental (private functions), and offers renters exclusive use of the beach, parking lot, and Pavilion (230 maximum seating) with a small noncommercial kitchen, small grills, play area and ball field (a small craft beach launch area is allowed for windsurfers to use).

 

 

Glenn Burnie Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreation facilities in Glen Burnie include Bachman Adult Sports Complex, and Cedar-Morris, Arundel Hills, Galesville, North Glen, Glen Burnie, and Sawmill Creek Parks, all county-owned and operated and some open year round from sunrise to sunset (hours of the other facilities vary). The parks collectively feature Baseball/Softball Fields (one lit), Multipurpose Fields, Basketball & Tennis Courts, Playgrounds, and seasonal Concession Stands. Features unique to specific parks include Picnic Area Pavilion (by reservation) at Cedar-Morris Hill Park, Hiking/Jogging Trails and Restrooms at North Glen Park, 1400 Gordon Court; a Skateboard Park featuring a five foot high half pipe, pipe rail, quarter pipe and a fun box at Sawmill Creek Park, 301 Dorsey Rd; and an outdoor ice rink at Glen Burnie Town Center, 103 N Crain Hwy, inside Glen Burnie Park, 499 Elizabeth Rd. The rink is open daily, hours vary; admission is through a daily rate, or by purchase of a discount card or seasonal pass; ice skating lessons for youth and adults are available. Bachman Adult Sports Complex, 570 E Ordnance Rd, 410-222-0017, features lighted softball, baseball, and multi-purpose fields that, along with Randazzo Softball Park, provide for recreational, competitive leagues and tournaments for both men and women.

 

 

Hanover Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreational facilities in Hanover include Easy Rider Ranch, 1317 German Driveway; and county-owned and operated Joe Cannon Stadium, and Harmans & Jessup/Dorsey Parks. The parks collectively feature Baseball/Softball Fields, Basketball Courts, Playgrounds, Picnic Areas, and Pavilions. Features unique to a particular center include Tennis Courts at Jessup/Dorsey Park, 7486 Race Rd; and Hiking/Jogging Trails, Restrooms, and a seasonal Concession Stand at Harmans Park, 7551 Teague Rd. Harmans Park also houses Joe Cannon Stadium, 410-222-6652, a baseball field for recreational and competitive games for ages 14 & older, featuring covered bleachers able to seat up to 1500 spectators, a press box, an electronic scoreboard, batting cages, dugouts, and adjoining locker rooms with showers. The stadium hosts the state high school baseball semi-finals and finals.

 

 

Linthicum Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreational facilities in Linthicum include Andover, Linthicum, and Overlook Parks, all county-owned and operated and open year round from sunrise to sunset. The parks collectively feature Baseball/Softball Fields (some lit), Multipurpose Fields (1 lit), Playgrounds, Picnic Areas (some available to reserve), and Tennis Courts. Features unique to particular parks include a seasonal Concession Stand and Restrooms at Andover Park, 603 Andover Rd; Basketball Courts at Overlook Park on Governor’s Gate Lane; and Hiking/Jogging Trails and an Amphitheater (by reservation) at Linthicum Park, 306 Benton Ave.

 

 

Lothian Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreational facilities in Lothian include Old South Park, 5385 Solomons Island Rd, a county-owned and operated facility open year round from sunrise to sunset, that features Baseball/ Softball Fields (1 lit), a seasonal Concession Stand, and Restrooms; and Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, 1361 Wrighton Rd, 410-741-9330. The1400 plus acre sanctuary (which includes Glendening Preserve) encompasses tidal freshwater wetlands, forests, meadows and fields along the Patuxent River; is habitat for numerous birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals; is an estuarine site for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve System; and is recognized as a Nationally Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy and the National Audubon Society. The sanctuary offers programs for high school students, summer camps for elementary school students (grades 5-6), and programs for home-schooled children. A support organization, Friends of Jug Bay, provides funds, grants and other support for sanctuary research and educational programs; members receive free admission into the sanctuary, and other benefits.

 

 

Millersville Recreation: Anne Arundel County Dept of Parks and Recreation

Recreational facilities in Millersville include Elvaton and Kinder Farm Parks, both county-owned and operated. Elvaton Park, 311 Dogwood Rd, features Baseball/Softball Fields, Multipurpose Fields, Basketball & Tennis Courts, a Playground, a Picnic Area (by Reservation) a Pavilion (by Reservation), Restrooms, and a seasonal Concession Stand. 288-acre Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd, 410-222-6115, offers facilities for hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing and picnicking; as well as a large playground and tot-lot. An agricultural history program and working farm that will show past and present agricultural practices of Anne Arundel County is under development; the park supports farm animals such as chickens, turkeys, geese, cows, pigs, goats and sheep through the efforts of the Kinder Farm Park 4-H Livestock Club.

Recreational facilities in Pasadena include Compass Pointe Golf Courses, Lake Shore Athletic Complex, and eight parks, which collectively feature Playgrounds, Baseball/Softball Fields (some lit), Basketball & Tennis Courts, Hiking/Jogging Trails, Restrooms, and Seasonal Concession Stands. Features unique to particular parks include T-ball Fields, Play Area, and Restrooms at Bodkin Park, 8263 Bodkin Ave. Green Haven Wharf, 7660 Outing Rd, offers fishing year round, daily, from sunrise to sunset. Lake Shore Athletic Complex, 863 Woods Rd, features Multipurpose Fields (some lit). 108 acre Lake Waterford Park, 830 Pasadena Rd, houses a 12-acre lake, and features pavilions available for large groups to reserve, a  "Boundless" playground located in the picnic area, a football field, and court and field lights available for county organized league play. John H. Downs Memorial Park, 8311 John Downs Loop, 410-222-6230, features handball courts, a self-guided nature trail; and four pavilions, a Wedding Garden, a Youth Camping Area and the Chesapeake Room (available for rent). Fort Smallwood Regional Park, 9500 Fort Smallwood Rd, 410-222-0087, opened in April, 2006 and features a rebuilt fishing pier, a renovated historic Cedar Pavilion (available to rent for groups up to 100 people), a handicapped accessible playground, a Historic gun battery and old barracks (Battery Hartshorne), Chesapeake Bay beaches (no swimming), and Park Ranger lead Nature and History Programs for families and individuals. 36-hole Compass Pointe Golf Courses, 9010 Fort Smallwood Rd, 410-255-7764, a public facility managed by Billy Casper Golf, Inc, offers golf instruction for all ages, including group & private lessons, clinics, and golf academy.

SPY Aquatic Center is located inside the Severna Park Community Center, which hosts summer camp programs, gymnastics classes, an after school program for middle school students, art classes for adults, drop-in Bridge, and fitness programs, as well as lifeguard/CPR training, and recreational, fitness, instructional, and competitive swim programs at SPY Aquatic Center.
