Structures still standing from that time include the Italienate stone mansion (Oreanda) as well as the stone stable/carriage house, gothic chapel, caretaker's house, water wheel, and "mock" fort. The site of Patterson Park dates back to the War of 1812, and became a park in 1827, with William Patterson's donation of 6 acres of land that featured a pastoral setting of trees, fountains, pavilions, a mansion, two lakes, and a pagoda from 1891, designed by Charles H. Latrobe. The park currently focuses on active and organized athletics, featuring sports fields, one of the city's two ice rinks and open space for residents in the surrounding rowhouse neighborhoods.
