Henry County

Recreation facilities in Henry County include Heritage Park, 99 Lake Dow Rd in McDonough, J.P. Mosely Park & Recreation Center, 1041 Millers Mill Rd in Stockbridge, 770-288-7311, and Cochran, Sandy Ridge, Franklin Rape, Hidden Valley, Mt. Carmel, North Forty, North Ola, Alexander, Avalon, Big Spring, Warren Holder, Sandy Ridge and Richard Craig Parks. Recreation/fitness classes, such as yoga, step aerobics, line dancing and hip hop dance meet at Heritage Park and/or J.P. Mosely Recreation Center. Mosely Recreation Center also offers Open Court Basketball, Walking Track and Weight Lifting facilities (all membership based), as well as an After School Academic Enrichment Program and Children's Choir. Sports programs meet at the various parks. Richard Craig Park hosts youth tennis lessons and a summer tennis & academic camp. Locust Grove, North Henry and McDonough Youth Associations offer baseball, softball, cheerleading and football programs; Warren Holder Park hosts the Locust Grove Youth Association, McDonough Youth Association uses the fields at Alexander, Avalon, Big Springs, and Richard Craig Parks, North Henry Youth Association uses the fields at Cochran & J.P. Moseley Parks. Ola Athletic Association and Hampton Youth Club sponsor softball and baseball; Ola Athletic Association uses the fields at Franklin Rape, North Ola and Sandy Ridge Parks; Hampton Youth Club uses North Forty Park fields. Fairview Youth Association sponsors baseball and uses Hidden Valley Park fields. Sandy Ridge Park hosts BMX Association (Bicycle Motocross Track) races. Soccer Association sponsors soccer programs, using the facilities of the Henry County Soccer Complex and Mt. Carmel Park. Sunshine League Sunshine League, which uses Richard Craig Park, sponsors baseball and bowling. Henry County Competitive Cheerleading Association (HCCCA) offers a competitive cheerleading program. Other athletic/specialty programs include Select League Baseball Recreation League, Baseball Dizzy Dean World Series, Youth Basketball, Softball and Track & Field, ISA World Series Paintball, and the Henry County Radio Control Club.

Recreation facilities in McDonough include John Alexander Memorial Park at Avalon Industrial Parkway, Alexander Park on Hwy 42, Big Spring Park, 64 Veterans St, Henry County Soccer Complex, 143 Henry Pkwy, Heritage Park, 101 Lake Dow Rd, Ola Park, 364 N Ola Rd, Red Hawk Nature Preserve Park, 143 Henry Pkwy, Sandy Ridge Park, 1200 Keys Ferry Rd, Simpson Street Park, 300 Simpson St and Windy Hill Park 100-A Windy Hill Rd. The facilities collectively feature playgrounds, paved walking/jogging tracks, lighted baseball and/or softball fields, football fields, basketball & tennis courts, picnic areas, picnic pavilions, concession stands and restrooms. Avalon also features a 26,000 sq. ft. open air pavilion with a covered 85 x 150 ft. in-line hockey rink, a press box, and dressing rooms. Alexander Park offers a barbeque pavilion and amphitheatre, which hosts a summer concert series. 20 acre Big Spring Park features a historic spring. 26 acre Henry County Soccer Complex features soccer fields of various sizes and a meeting room, with future facilities to include a picnic pavilion and walking/jogging trail. 112 acre Heritage Park houses a library, senior citizen center, adult softball complex and historic buildings (a barn-shaped museum which will house historical items and serve as the entrance to the historical village containing a 100-year old corn crib, a Village Garden area, an 1827 settlers log cabin, an original two-room county school house, a cookhouse, the first library building in Henry County, Lane's country store and a 1934 steam engine locomotive and tender). Future facilities are to include youth football/soccer fields, bike trails, jogging trails, water activity area, concession stand with restrooms, playground, walking track and a skate park. 12 acre Ola Park 364 N Ola Rd, features a nature trail and meeting space, with future facilities to include a playground and picnic shelter. 29 acre Red Hawk Nature Preserve Park 143 Henry Pkwy, houses a remote control airplane/helicopter strip. 34-acre Sandy Ridge Park 1200 Keys Ferry Rd, features a BMX track, with future facilities to include youth practice baseball/softball fields and an outdoor volleyball court. Simpson Street Park 300 Simpson St, offers a picnic shelter.
Richard Craig Park, 125 Cedar St at Cap Welch Blvd, houses a community building. 30-acre Windy Hill Park 100-A Windy Hill Rd, houses the recreation office, Windy Hill activity building, a fairground and exhibit area, an obstacle course, and a gazebo.

Recreation facilities in Stockbridge include Memorial, Gardner and Clark Parks, which collectively feature picnic pavilions (can be reserved), playground areas, handicap accessible activities and walking/jogging tracks. 9.1 acre Gardner Park also features tennis courts. 11.8 acre Clark Community Park also features a grill. Memorial Park also houses a gazebo and exercise stations and hosts Music in the Park every 4th Saturday evening of the month during the spring, summer and fall, an event featuring a variety of musical and vocal entertainers. County-owned and operated J.P.
