Cherokee County Recreation Programs

CRPA programs include Cheerleading, Gymnastics and Tumbling Classes for children ages 1-18, Young Rembrandts drawing class for preschool and elementary school age children, Indoor Landscape Painting class, Music Together program for children ages birth to 4 years, Aerobics & Children's Fitness "Get Fit Kids" class for ages 7 & up, Ballroom Dancing, Line Dancing, American Red Cross Babysitting class, eBay 101 Workshop, Digital Photography Workshop, Fencing Instruction and Tae Kwon Do for all ages. Special programs for children include Spring Break Day Camp and Summer Camp. Therapeutic Recreation Programs are offered for individuals with physical and/or intellectual challenges. Senior Citizens' Programs include the Silver Roamers Club. Community Events include Guns & Hoses 5K, County Wide Garage Sale, Touch-A-Truck, Better Weight than Ever, Cherokee Reads, Red Cross Blood Drive and Movies under the Stars. Youth & adult sports programs include tennis, basketball, softball, soccer, youth baseball and adult flag football. Recreational facilities in the county include 17 parks and 2 recreation/community centers, which collectively feature playgrounds, picnic areas (some with grills), picnic pavilions (some with grills), running/walking tracks/trails, baseball/softball fields, football/soccer fields, outdoor basketball & volleyball courts, tennis courts, concession buildings, boat ramps, gazebos, restrooms and parking. Features unique to specific parks include a duck pond at Calvin Farmer Park in Ball Ground' Blankets, Creek and Bike Trails at Barnett Park in Canton; a fishing dock at Field's Landing in Canton; relief station and benches at Hickory Trails Park in Canton; an amphitheater and fitness court at Hobgood Park in Woodstock; an outdoor classroom and natural areas at Lewis Park in Woodstock; a green space area at Rubes Creek Park in Woodstock (not handicapped accessible); a disc golf course at Sequoyah Park in Canton; and softball fields and a multipurpose field at Weatherby Park in Canton. Union Hill Community Center, located in Canton, features activity/meeting rooms a kitchen and a stage. Woodstock Recreation Center, 7545 Main St, Building 200, also features activity/meeting rooms a kitchen and a stage, as well as a gym, inline hockey rink and administrative offices.

J. J. Biello Park in Woodstock houses Twin Creeks Softball Complex (5 Youth Championship Lighted Softball Fields, Batting Cages, Concession/Restroom Building); Riverside Athletic Complex (Lacrosse, Soccer & Football Fields, Trails System); The Valley Playground (Largest Playground in Georgia with a Play Area for ages 2 to 5 and a Play Area for ages 5 to 12), Large Pavilion with grills available for rent; and Cherokee Tennis Center (10 Tennis Courts, Pavilion, Restrooms, Pro Shop & Offices).

Ball Ground Recreation Calvin Farmer Park 235 Old Dawsonville Rd Ball Ground GA 770-735-2123*

Recreational facilities in Ball Ground, jointly run by the City of Ball Ground and the Cherokee Parks & Recreation Agency (CRPA) include Calvin Farmer Park, which features picnic pavilions with grills, a children's playground, a duck pond, open fields and wooded areas with a small stream running thru the center, a running/walking track, and a performance stage available for public use and concerts; Downtown Park, adjacent to the railway, which features a wooded, shady spot; Lions Field, a youth baseball/softball field located downtown that serves as the home field for the North Cherokee Baseball Association and features a concessions building and restrooms; Community Center Complex, including a 6,000 square foot community building available for rent* that is adjacent to Calvin Farmer Park, a softball field managed by the North Cherokee Girls Softball Association, tennis courts, a basketball court and. 7 heavily wooded acres of green space available for hiking and passive pursuits; and City Park, which features a baseball/softball field, outdoor basketball court and tennis courts.

Holly Springs Park Dept: Barrett Park on Park Lane Holly Springs GA 30142 770-345-5536

Recreational facilities in Holly Springs include recently-opened Barrett Park, which features a playground and a walking trail meandering through a scenic natural area; and JC Mullins Field, a regulation sized baseball field, which is home to several area teams, and is surrounded by a walking trail, "tot lot," and picnic pavilion. Additional facilities in Barrett Park are planned.

Recreation facilities in Waleska include Cline Park and Waleska Park, which both feature a playground, picnic pavilion with grill, and restroom. Cline Park also houses tennis courts, an outdoor volleyball court and a running/walking track; Waleska Park features baseball/softball fields and a concession building. Both parks are county-owned and/or operated.
