Cherokee County Public Schools operates 36 schools covering grades PK-12, which serve 14,485 students in the communities of Acworth, Ball Ground, Canton, Waleska and Woodstock, and any unincorporated areas. 21 schools are elementary level (K-4, PK-5, K-5, PK-6, K-6), 8 are middle schools (5-6, 6-8, 7-8, 6-9) and 5 are high schools (9-11, 9-12). The district also operates Ralph Bunche for Head Start, CrossRoads Alternative Middle/High School, Polaris Evening School and Mountainbrook School at L.R. Tippens Educational Center. Student/teacher ratio is 14:1 (district-wide). The district employs 2,412 classroom teachers, 205 support personnel, and 122 administrators. 44% of teachers have a Bachelors Degree only, 42% have a Masters Degree. Per Pupil cost is $7,636. A variety of programs, services, and personnel are provided for Limited English Speaking (LEP), Gifted & Talented and Special Needs students. 3.1% of students are enrolled in the English to Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) program, 11.5% receive Special Education services, 12.3% are enrolled in Gifted Education programs. Support services for all students, as needed, include speech/language, tutoring and counseling. The district offers a before- & after-school care program for elementary/intermediate school age students on all days that school is in session.
